Senior Physician Assistant – Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery

First responder to emergency room ENT consults across two hospital sites for airway and head and neck emergencies on a daily basis and one night per week on-call duty.

Obtain histories and perform physical exams for ear, nose and throat complaints. Perform pre-surgical work ups including ordering scans and other diagnostic tests.

Perform procedures such as flexible rhinolaryngoscopy (fiberoptic camera view from nostrils to voice box), biopsies of lesions of the oral cavity and head and neck, incision and drainage of cysts and abscesses, routine suturing of lacerations, and reduction of nasal fractures.

First or second surgical assist – tracheostomy, thyroidectomy, rhinoplasty, neck dissection, and various Plastic Surgery procedures.

Conduct rounds, order and interpret diagnostic tests with direct and indirect supervision by a Physician. Inpatient care of patients from post-surgery to Intensive Care, medical/surgical floor and on to discharge.

Patient educator and liaison with Oncology department for post surgical treatment.

Clinician in all six clinic sessions held per week to offer continuity of care, work with administrative and nursing staff to ensure efficient and quality care is provided to all patients in the clinic system.

Train and orient new clinical staff including Junior Physician Assistants and two ENT Fellows on an annual basis.

NORTH SHORE ALLERGY AND ASTHMA INSTITUTE – LONG ISLAND, N.Y. 2000-2002
