Laboratory Specimen Processing

Receives and processes laboratory specimens, enters patient information along with tests ordered by physicians. Communicates with nurses at facilities for any questions or concerns. Training new employees. Makes sure all information on specimen is accurate with patient information found in the system. Prepares blood specimens for centrifuge or reference lab for send outs. Prepares urines, swabs, sputum, MRSA cultures, and stools by planting before incubation period. Specimens are kept for seven days and need to be properly discarded after this period. Reviews patient Requisition Log and makes corrections as needed.
