Academic projects

Transient Analysis: Mar ’15 – May ‘15

Determined the transient response of wheel and curb due to side impact by simulating a drop of curb on wheel i.e. impact force (gravity inertia load toward wheel) using Ansys. Assumed proper striking velocity, time frame of the impact and damping ratio, constrained the wheel & the striker, created contacts, decided initial, minimum and maximum steps for solver and submitted a detail report.

Harmonic Vibrations of Rail Platform with Motor: Jan ’15 – Mar ‘15

Performed modal analysis and harmonic analysis to determine the natural frequency and mode shapes, determined frequency response and phase response for the range of operating loads to avoid non-synchronous vibration and submitted detailed analysis report based on result from Ansys software.

Design of Beam Structure for Crane Aug ’14 – Dec ‘14

Analyzed the beam structure of a Crane in various positions using Ansys Workbench and studied its behavior to design an optimum beam structure of the Crane. The project taught me the essence of using an FEA package for designing the real time structures.

Analysis of Automotive Drum Brake: Jun ’15 – Aug ‘15

Modeled and analyzed the drum brake used in an automobile by assuming proper contacts between the brake shoe and drum using Ansys. Studied the result and submitted a detailed report of the drum brake assembly and predicted the stress values and failure criteria.

Post Buckling Analysis: Jan ’14 – May ‘14

Performed initial modal and structural analysis followed by PSD and post buckling analysis to study the structural failure effect of Lee Frame and improve design, submitted a detail analysis report.

Size and shape Optimization of Connecting Rod: Jan ’14 – May ‘14

Optimized the connecting rod shape, size and weight by using DOE, Ansys Response surface and validated the optimized model to confirm the solution.

National Competition Feb ’11 – Feb ‘12

SAE BAJA: Created design by analyzing product and equipment specification, performance requirements and with existing manufacturing capabilities and market availabilities. Fabricated an ATV from scratch by managing a team of six member designing and analyzing the roll cage, chassis using Catia, Solidworks, Ansys and Abacus. Finally finished 2nd position in Economic vehicle category and 17th overall.

CAE Simulation: Studied procedures and performed practical analysis for linear, non-linear, static, dynamic, harmonic structure analysis of various components, as well as optimized them for its durability and fatigue capabilities.

Finite Element Analysis: Studied boundary value problems creating Finite Element Models (FEM), and performed 1D & 2D Finite Element Analysis of Static, Dynamic and Heat transfer studies using Abaqus as the primary FEA software.
