Survival strategy of Erwinia aroideae against copper: Induction of the Viable But Nonculturable State

Here we have studied the survival strategy of Erwinia carotovora aroideae in short term exposure to

different concentration of copper sulfate. The experiments included determination of MIC of cupric

sulfate followed by exposure of cells to sub-lethal concentration of cupric sulfate. Total Viable cell counts

and number of viable bacteria by Epifluorescence microscopy using the LIVE/DEAD BacLight viability

kit was determined. It was elucidated that Erwinia carotovora aroideae enters into VBNC state in

presence of sub-lethal concentration of copper.
