WORK EXPERIENCE
Quality & Production Manager June 1999 – June 2015
Controls, Inc. / Total EMS / Total Electronics / Cal-Comp USA Logansport, IN
Implemented quality system, resulting in TS 16949 registration
Key accomplishment
-Improved customer satisfaction through return rate reduction of 63% and reduced the overall scrap rate from 1.25% to 0.22% of sales ($400K / yr. savings)
Developed web-based manufacturing execution system (MES) in conjunction with IT
Key accomplishment
-Tracked quality (e.g., first pass yields, rework Paretos), productivity (e.g., operation cycle times), and WIP all product was serialized and scanned at each process step
Created and implemented pay-for-skills program through on-the-job and classroom training for shop floor employees
Key accomplishment
- Over three-years, the average pay for the core / stable group of employees increased by 29% while plant efficiency (cost per standard hour) improved by 18%

Led 12 lean manufacturing workshops, reducing variation, lead times and work-in-process
Key accomplishment
-Improved first pass yields from less than 50% to better than 90% and decreased production lead time from greater than 6-days to less than 1-day
Established self-directed customer focused work teams, improving quality, productivity, workplace organization, and safety.
Key accomplishment
-Improved employee involvement and awareness, established a new leadership position within the hourly ranks, and quantifiable improvements in quality, on-time delivery, housekeeping, and workplace organization metrics yielding a positive environment for conscientious and productive employees
Quality Manager 1989 – 1999
Harman International Martinsville, IN & El Paso, TX
Established and met clear goals for two quality organizations, focusing on integrity and increased customer satisfaction by reducing variation in manufacturing processes and improving the effectiveness of the quality system
Key accomplishment
-Decreased vehicle assembly plant PPM from 1,989 to 40 (98% improvement)
-The DaimlerChrysler 6 months-in-service warranty return rate decreased form 1.21 to 0.47 conditions per vehicle resulting in a perfect score of 5 in the warranty category and a supplier cost reduction (SCORE) credit of $458K
-Statistically derived end-of-line test limits for speaker performance improved the overall plant wide first time test yield from 94.5 to 96.2%
EARLIER WORK EXPERIENCE
Applications Engineer / Quality Manager
Holley Carburetor Warren, MI; Water Valley, MS & Bowling Green, KY
Hired as an Applications Engineer in Warren, MI, quickly promoted to Liaison Product Engineer and transferred to a manufacturing facility in Water Valley, MS where extensive training and application of statistical process control methods led to a quality management position at the Bowling Green, KY facility. While at these two plants, extensive experience and knowledge was obtained in die cast machining, carburetor assembly, screw machining, stamping, plating, heat treating, ultra sonic welding, spray coating, and a variety of other sub-assembly processes.
Key accomplishment
-Resolved numerous design and process related manufacturing problems (e.g., excessive scrap due to fuel leakage at a main metering jet seat, internal and external costs due to elongated/fractured choke plate screws, and poor vehicle performance due to variation in accelerator pump capacity) resulting in numerous promotions and net savings to the company of more than $1.0M per year.
