PROJECT SUMMARY:

1.Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS):

Title : Multi Protocol Label Switching

Platforms : Linux

Languages : C

Duration : 9 months

Description:

MPLS is a forwarding technology, which uses labels to make forwarding decisions. A label is a 20 bit number used to identify next-hop for the packet. In traditional IP forwarding, the IP destination address in the packet’s header is used to make forwarding decision at each router. This forwarding decision is based on routing protocols such as OSPF or IS-IS. Where as in MPLS, the IP header analysis is done once at ingress LER where the packet enters into MPLS domain. At this router a label is assigned to the packet. This label tells at each router (LSR) in MPLS domain, how to process and forward packets. At each router the current label is swapped with a new label to route the packet to next-hop. At egress LER (packet leaves from MPLS domain), label is removed and forwarded based on IP. This makes faster switching compared traditional IP forwarding.

The Label Distribution Protocol (LDP) is a protocol defined for distributing labels between routers in MPLS domain. It is used to establish Label Switched Paths (LSP) through a network. LDP associates a Forwarding Equivalence Class (FEC) with each LSP it creates. Two LSR’s that use LDP to exchange label/FEC mapping information are known as “LDP Peers” with respect to that information, and we speak of there being an “LDP Session” between them. A single LDP session allows each peer to learn the other’s label mappings that the protocol is bi-directional.

2. TFTP PROTOCOL:

Title : TFTP PROTOCOL

Platforms : Linux

Languages : C

Description:

TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol) is a file transfer protocol, with the functionality of a very basic form of File Transfer Protocol (FTP). Due to its simple design, TFTP can be

implemented in a very small amount of memory. It is still used to transfer small amounts of data between hosts on a network.

Details of TFTP

• It uses UDP port 69 as its transport protocol (unlike FTP which uses TCP port 21).

• It has no authentication or encryption mechanisms.

• It is used to read files from, or write files to, a remote server.

• It supports three different transfer modes, "net ASCII", "octet" and "mail".
