The main purpose of the project was to perform a conversion from IMS to DB2. This required extensive analysis of the existing production system written in Cobol, IMS and DB2. This required writing specifications for changes needed to go from IMS to DB2. Imbedded DB2 SQL was not coded directly in the consuming program but accomplished by CALLing “ DB2 components”. Most of my work was performed in the adjudication process of the Claims system, Payment Modification being a significant part of my work. My Initial task was the role of business system analyst. I wrote and analyzed information on the old and new business system that needed to be examined. Also attended numerous meetings with “users” of the current retirement system and discussed requirements for the new retirement system (NBS). From the information gathered, produced documents (specifications) and windows layouts for the disbursement portion of the new retirement system (NBS). Was transferred to the “mainframe conversion group”. In a nutshell, my task in the group was to “transform” Honeywell–Bull mainframe application using mainframe screens, IDS hierarchical/network databases, RDBC relational databases, with COBOL as the host language to a COOL:GEN, Client Server, Windows 95 “generated C++ application”. This required reading COBOL programs written for the Honeywell-Bull and “rewriting” the code using the CONSTRUCTION facility of COOL:GEN, as well as the use of the data modeling facility (BAA and TD) provided by COOL:GEN. The new application contained list boxes as well as performed addition, deletion and updating data from windows. This application required four client/server pairs (client prods and Server prods) and several CABS.

The CDBG system was developed using the UNISYS mainframe and the S2K database with an IBM PC subsystem interface. The OPC system was

developed using the UNISYS mainframe and the S2K Hierarchical Database. After analyzing the systems mentioned above I coded COBOL programs, one on the UNISYS mainframe and one on the IBM mainframe to use the data created by and for the 4 systems mentioned above. This data was used to create 17 DB2 tables which were used by the IEF developed MBE system. As an IEF BSD/TD/Construction Analyst/Programmer I was responsible for creating and making changes to Procedure Action Diagrams (PRADS) and Process Action Diagrams (PADS) using IEF under OS/2. Packaging, code generation and testing as initially done on the PC. Later on all development was switched to the IBM mainframe where the system implemented. Platinum software was used to created reports from the DB2 tables.
