The main purpose of the project was to perform a conversion from IMS to DB2. This required extensive analysis of the existing production system written in Cobol, IMS and DB2. Was transferred to the “mainframe conversion group”. In a nutshell, my task in the group was to “transform” Honeywell–Bull mainframe application using mainframe screens, IDS hierarchical/network databases, RDBC relational databases, with COBOL as the host language to a COOL:GEN, Client Server, Windows 95 “generated C++ application”. This required reading COBOL programs written for the Honeywell-Bull and “rewriting” the code using the CONSTRUCTION facility of COOL:GEN, as well as the use of the data modeling facility (BAA and TD) provided by COOL:GEN. The new application contained list boxes as well as performed addition, deletion and updating data from windows. This application required four client/server pairs (client prods and Server prods) and several CABS.

Packaging, code generation and testing as initially done on the PC. Later on all development was switched to the IBM mainframe where the system implemented.
