ACADEMIC PROJECTS
Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar Test
Modeled and designed the Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar Test in SolidWorks.
Johnson Cook Damage parameter was used in Abaqus to define the plastic material behavior as it is
ideal for High Strain Rate problems.
Dynamic explicit step was selected to perform impact loading analysis to find the dynamic stress-
stain relations and contact properties were defined to simulate the experiment correctly.
Calculated the high strain rates for steel, aluminum in Abaqus and compared them to experimental
results.
Analysis of Automobile Assembly Line
Analyzed the existing system to find the process layouts, production rate and cycle time.
Designed the 2D model of the assembly line in AutoCAD to locate the stations and equipment.
Using lean manufacturing concepts indentified system level changes and optimized the system.
Recommended automation for the door assembly station to increase production rate.
Reliability Engineering Analysis of Windmill Gearbox
Created a Requirements Definition Document to encapsulate all the targets for the product.
Recognized and prioritized design issues and tradeoffs using Quality Function Deployment.
Performed Reliability Math Model using Weibull Distribution to predict future performances.
Learned Failure Mode And Effect Analysis(FMEA) concepts and built the DFMEA document to
recognize and evaluate potential failures.
GE Jet Engine Bracket Design
Structural analysis was carried out on the bracket using Abaqus to find the stresses and strains.
Conducted Topology Optimization using Abaqus to find optimum material distribution while
ensuring that the objectives are met and constraints are correctly implemented.
Reduced the mass of the part by 85% and designed the optimized part in CATIA.
Design Optimization and Strength Analysis of Ships Using CFD Techniques
Studied the effect of shape of hull on movement of ship through water using CFD techniques.
Compared performance of different kind of hull designs.
BAJA SAE INDIA 2013
Led a cross functional team of 25 students to successfully design and manufacture an All Terrain
Vehicle.
Synchronized day to day activities of all the 5 departments to ensure smooth functioning.
Designed and manufactured the transmission system in CATIA to join a Briggs & Stratton engine to a
Piaggio Ape Gearbox which facilitated a reduction in mass of the vehicle by 45 pounds.
Implemented Design for Manufacturing(DFM) concepts for all the components of the vehicle.
BAJA SAE INDIA 2012
Engineered and modified a constant mesh Piaggio Ape gearbox into a FNR gearbox which
contributed in the team finishing 3rd in the acceleration event.
Developed suspension for the vehicle using Lotus Suspension Analysis while selecting the
appropriate ride and roll rates.
Carried out FEA(Finite Element Analysis) of vehicle components(hubs, shafts, chassis, uprights)
using the correct materials while applying accurate loads and boundary conditions in ANSYS.
Prepared the Bill of Materials(BOM) document for different parts of the vehicle.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Student Assistant(Career Services) June 2014 - May 2015
Organized 2 career fairs attended by more than 140 companies and 1600 students for each event.
Coordinated with all the employers and students while overseeing the logistics to ensure smooth
functioning of the events.
Conducted cold calls to employers and managed administrative tasks.
ACTIVITIES
Member of ‘ Mechanical Engineering Students’ Association (MESA)
Member of ‘Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)’
Treasurer of ‘SAE India SPCE Collegiate Club’
Completed a certified course in CATIA
