PROJECTS

Analysis of White Wine Quality

Class Project, Team Leader, Columbia University, New York, NY October 2014

• Dealt with dataset contains over 4800 data and 11 indicators from UCI Machine Learning Repository

• Used R to build regression and classification models, like linear regression, LASSO, random forest, and decision tree,

and compared the results of different models

• Found classification models were better than regression models, and random forest was the optimal algorithm to predict

quality of the white wine

Text Classification

Class Project, Columbia University, New York, NY April 2014

• Worked on dataset with 77 papers from Federalist Papers written by Hamilton and Madison

• Transferred the texts into a document-term matrix, which counts the number of times each dictionary element is used in

a document, and the dictionary contains 4873 different words

• Classified papers by Naïve Bayes method, and used 5-fold cross-validation to determined the best value of parameter

miu which achieved 91% classification accuracy

• Built tree classification models to classify the papers and got 96% accuracy

Investment Strategy using Bayesian Portfolio Selection

Class Project, Team Member, Columbia University, New York, NY November 2013

• Achieved an optimized a portfolio of eight stocks from different industries by maximizing sharp ratio in Excel

• Used Bayesian method to adjust portfolio allocation, and compared the results with Classical method

• Forecasted performance of the portfolio in next period using optimal method

Estimate the Weight of Leaves on a Tree

Mathematics Contest in Modeling, Team Leader, CUFE, Beijing, China February 2012

• Completed the project and a report in limited 4 days and under high pressure

• Simulated the crown of a tree based on the theory of fractal by using Matlab

• Made a mathematical model to obtain the increment of weight of a tree through the photosynthesis
