(A)Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (Power emphasis) – New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, NM – January 1989. (A)Southern Company Transmission, Forest Park, GA (Oct 2014 to present and continuing about 8 months- ) – Title: Senior Engineer (P&C Applications).

Working on distribution and transmission substations, estimate requests, field requests, transmission operations, pre-engineering meetings, pre-construction meetings on substation projects. New employee and learning new software tools, work processes, methods, designs, logic, etc which vary significantly from utility to utility.

(B) Pennsylvania Power & Light – Electric Utilities, Allentown, PA. (July 2011 to present Sept 2014 – 3 years and 2 months) -- Title: Senior Engineer (Protection Settings & Analysis – Substation Engg)

Completed work on a 230 kV switchyard project involving step distance and high speed tripping (POTT) for two transmission lines involving SEL421 relays, with breaker failure, auto reclose, sync check, distance elements, SOTF, backup overcurrent elements, POTT via fiber, breaker open echo, weak feed echo, current reversal guard, etc. Also worked on bus diff relays such as SEL-487B. Project completed. Completed settings for the GE D-60 UR relay serving as back up for the SEL-421 and also the GE B-30 UR relay serving as backup for the SEL-487B Bus Diff relay. Worked on a customer point of contact project involving SEL-551, SEL-501, SEL-351-7 relays. Completed work on SEL-411L relay setting for a 230 kV line as part of relay upgrade project involving line current differential and backup step distance. Completed work on another SEL-411L relay setting involving POTT via fiber ring via JMux. Using CAPE for simulations utilizing EX, OL and SC modules. Completed work on a 650 MVA transformer replacement transmission substation job involving SEL-587, SEL-487E relays. Work involved drawing checks, preparation of settings, field support. SORT Team member for storm role and damage assessment.

(C) NStar Electric and Gas Corporation, Westwood, MA – now Northeast Utilities (Aug 2009 to July 2011 – 2 years approx): Title: Electrical Engineer Grade 4 (Senior) – Protection and Control.

Started work in Control and Protection Engineering – worked on various distributed generator interconnection projects involving wind generators – induction, photo voltaics with inverters, fuel cells, IC engine, gas turbines – DG projects involved synchronous generators and induction generators with cap banks, inverters. Completed protection and control work including drawings package and relay settings for a 115 kV two terminal line involving SEL-421 and RFL9745 for POTT scheme. Completed the drawings package and relay settings for a 345 kV shunt reactor involving SEL-387A, ABB TPU, SEL-352. Completed the drawings package and relay settings for a 115 kV bus split project involving SEL-587Z and ABB REB relays. Completed the drawings package and relay settings for a 115 kV three terminal T line involving SEL-311L relays. Also, worked on protection issues for a Phase Angle Regulating Transformer. (D) National Grid, Waltham, MA. (Feb 2004 to Aug 2009 – 5 years ) – Electric power and gas utility in Northeast US and UK. Title: --- Senior Engineer – Protection Engineering.

Protection Engineering work in the Protection Engineering Department. Work involved preparation of conceptual design, relay design briefs/relay operating descriptions, drawing sign offs and checks, and relay settings on substation projects (mostly distribution substations and some transmission line relaying involving distance relays and high speed tripping schemes), Distributed generator interconnection projects involving hydro, methane, solar, wind – synchronous, induction, inverter, and compliance with state regulators for DG interconnections, some disturbance analysis and some storm duty work. Used ASPEN One Liner for simulations and co-ordination work. Damage Assessor during winter storm role.

Relays involved: SEL-351A, SEL-501, SEL-421, SEL-587, L-Pro, Basler-59N, 50/51, 27, 59, GE IAC, ABB relays (drawings and settings)and some communication equipment such as the RFL 9745 for Direct Transfer Trip applications, Ametek UPLC for Directional Comparison Carrier Blocking Scheme, Iniven PDR-2000 for POTT (drawings only). Software: Aspen (for short circuit analysis and protective device co-ordination work), Interruption Disturbance System (for disturbance analysis), Wavewin (for Digital Fault Recorder and Relay event report retrieval and waveform analysis).

Working on protection engineering/design of switchyards (drawing preparation) for Duke Engineering Services in Charlotte, NC for the Duke Energy Luna Project in New Mexico; SIPC Switchyard Project, Illinois for ABB Raleigh, NC; Ameren relay replacement projects for Patrick Engineering, Illinois, and Wolf Crossing Project, Naperville, IL using ComEd General Design Documents (GDDs) for ComEd, Oak Brook Terrace, Illinois thru Dashiell Corporation, Illinois.

Equipment involved: SEL relays, ABB PM circuit breakers, S& C circuit switchers, etc.

(F) Bechtel Power Corporation, Gaithersburg and Frederick, Maryland, USA – World’s largest EPC firm – Designs and Builds Power Plants. (March 1997 to July 2001 – 4 years and 4 months) --- Title: Electrical Engineer III Grade 24.

Involved with various aspects of power plant and switchyard design – preparing dc schematics, ac three line drawings, relay and meter one line drawings, and relay settings plus, preparation of purchase memorandums, material requisitions and specifications, vendor technical bid analysis, etc that involved generator relaying, aux transformer, station service transformer, load centers, motor control centers, medium voltage switchgear and UPS and battery systems. Some work involving electrical drawings preparation for H.V. ring bus and breaker and a half switchyards. Software used: ETAP and CAPTOR, Blockdraw for Block diagrams, Setroute for cable terminations.

Notable projects:

Qinshan 1-870 MW 23 kV CANDU-6 Nuclear Project in China ( 1 years), Ghazlan Oil fired project, Saudi Arabia ( 1 years), Turkey BOO - Build, Operate, Own combined cycle power projects at Izmir, Gebze, Adapazari (1 year), Various switchyard projects (Ring bus, breaker and a half -- 230 kV, 345 kV) for Samalayuca, Mexico and Quezon, Phillipines and Rocksavage, England. Some work on preparing MCC schematics for plant process such as motor operated valves, DCIS operated valves, etc using P & IDs for Ghazlan Oil fired Power Project.

Equipment involved: GEC Alstom Relaying for generators at Qinshan, Cutler Hammer Load Centers and Medium Voltage Switchgear at Qinshan, SEL and Areva Relays (21, 87, 52, 86, 50/51, 79) for switchyard projects, Chloride and SCI UPS systems. Communication equipment: RFL 9745, Trench or Pulsar CS, CR, CT, TC-10.

(G) Electric Power Systems, Inc – NETA Certified Electrical Testing and Engineering Firm, Maryland Heights, MO. (May 1990- Dec1996 -- 6 years and 8 months) --- Title: Electrical Engineer

Performing short circuit analysis and protective device co-ordination studies on industrial, commercial, institutional and hospital distribution systems and co-generation all over the US using SKM Systems DAPPER and CAPTOR software in conformance with IEEE Std, 242, NEC, ANSI, MIL Stds, etc. Also, some projects involved load flow and voltage drop analysis using SKM DAPPER, motor start analysis using SKM DAPPER, and harmonic analysis and filter design using Cooper V-HARM software.
