Independent Container Line, Glen Allen, VA

Developed and revised SSRS reports for analyzing data related to the trans-Atlantic shipping of containerized goods.

These reports were developed using BIDS.

Wrote T-SQL stored procedures used and functions that delivered the data to the SSRS reports.

Modified RDLs, stored procedures and functions to correctly function as the database evolved the user interface changed and as versions 42 - 45 of Compass, the core business application, were released.

Designed and developed VB.NET application and database for managing the SSRS reports library and their related SQL Server 2008 R-2 objects.

Setup and managed report subscriptions.

Migrated data from the legacy system into new database used for legacy reporting.

Designed and developed VB.NET applications that converted a 30-minute query writing process into an automated process taking a few minutes.

These reports were developed using matrix, table, chart and gauge report objects using BIDS.

Rewrote inefficient stored procedures, functions, and views

Many of these objects contained a significant amount of redundant code.

Rewrote objects and made them flexible by using parameters and thus only one object was necessary instead of five.

SSRS Report Developer/ Programmer/Analyst

Developed an SSRS report library using matrix, table, chart and gauge report objects using BIDS and MS Report Builder (2.0 & 3.0).

At the beginning of this development process, IMB was a Business Objects “shop” and there were no SSRS reports or developers. I was assigned the responsibility of learning SSRS reporting and creating the report library. With no other SSRS co-workers to use as a reference or teacher, I learned the skills via Google, YouTube, and any and every book I could find. The report library is used across the whole organization. The library includes the 5-Year Side-by-Side report reflecting mission critical data for the current year as well as for the previous four years. There are drilldown reports that give both a summary view and, for those who want to see the details, they may go deeper at the click of a button. Additionally, there are graphical reports using charts, graphs and gauges. And, for those who “just want the data,” there are table/excel style reports. All reports are parameterized to deliver only the data the user wants and include security that only delivers the data permitted for view by the user.

Served as part of the design and specification gathering team of version three of CPPI (the main corporate system).

This was an 18-month process. My involvement included analyzing the data structure, system specifications and performance. Weekly meetings, think tanks, and detailed discussions were all within the scope of my role on this team.

Programmed in VB.NET, VB6 and designed/developed SQL Server databases used for data analysis and ad hoc queries.

Built an online multi-lingual application used for scheduling, record keeping and information dissemination.

Built online application that was used as an accessory to the CPPI system and allowed users to make historical changes.

Designed and developed database and SSRS reports that converted a 40-minute manual research process to a click and print process that took only seconds.

Designed the database and wrote the VB6 application that provided a vehicle for expense reporting and financial analysis.

Wrote T-SQL stored procedures, functions, views used for delivering report data and wrote ad hoc queries as I was asked “need-to-know-now” questions by management.
