Interventional Pain Management- Southwest Pain Group, Dallas, TX: June 25, 2014-Present

As a midlevel provider at this outpatient clinic I treat 30-40 patients daily for both acute and chronic pain conditions. The patient population includes those suffering from back pain, neck pain, migraines and headaches, and degenerative joint disease. More complex chronic pain conditions frequently treated also include failed back syndrome- post surgical pain, spinal stenosis, neuralgia/neuropathy, fibromyalgia, auto-immune diseases, and complex regional pain/RSD post traumatic injuries. Patients are seen routinely, typically every 60 days, for medication management of opioid and non-opioid medications. Other tasks include ordering and reviewing imaging, and ordering procedures, such as cervical, thoracic, or lumbar facet injections, epidural steroid injections, radiofrequency, and spinal cord stimulators. Interventional Pain Management- Advanced Pain Care, Austin, TX: April 3, 2013-June 19, 2014

At this outpatient clinic I treated 20-30 patients daily for both acute and chronic pain conditions. Patients were seen routinely, every 30-60 days, for medication management of opioid and non-opioid medications. Other tasks included ordering and reviewing imaging, ordering physical therapy and referring to psychology, ordering procedures, such as injection therapy, radiofrequency, and spinal cord stimulators, and performing in-office trigger point injections and knee injections.

Women’s Health- Women’s Wellness Center, Scranton, PA: May 16, 2011-June 3, 2011

This three-week rotation focused on gynecology with a strong emphasis on outpatient treatment during clinical hours. Tasks completed included lab requests, patient histories, breast and vaginal exams, and pap smears. Once a week obstetrics on-call time was spent at Moses Taylor Hospital in labor and delivery.

This three-week rotation took place at a busy, fast-paced out-patient practice with a patient-base in the thousands, where a wide variety of mental illnesses were treated; primarily bipolar, depression, anxiety and panic disorders. Several mornings were spent at Moses Taylor Hospital assisting with ECT treatments in the PACU, followed by rounds on the Senior Medial Mental Health Unit, where treatment team meetings focusing on management, continuing treatment, and counseling of patients took place.

Emergency Medicine- Allegheny General Hospital Emergency Department, Pittsburgh, PA: June 27, 2011-August 5, 2011

This six-week rotation focused on the ability to care for acutely sick and injured patients by recognizing signs and symptoms of unstable patients, initiating appropriate treatment and caring for those with acute traumatic, orthopedic, respiratory, cardiac, abdominal, surgical, toxicology, environmental, medical, psychiatric, pediatric, or other illnesses, along with caring for the common cold, lacerations, and infections. Emphasis was placed on patient treatment, procedural skills, and interpretation of diagnostic laboratory studies. Each week of clinical included 2.5 hours of emergency medicine lecture.

Pediatrics- Children’s Hospital of UPMC Emergency Department, Pittsburgh, PA: August 8, 2011- September 16, 2011

This six-week rotation focused on ambulatory patient care, including the care and management of acute and chronic illness, exacerbations of chronic illness, orthopedic injuries, and wound care. Strong emphasis was placed on appropriate documentation of history and physical exam, treatment, and patient counseling on discharge and treatment instructions.

General Surgery- Jefferson Hills Surgical Specialists, JRMC, Jefferson Hills, PA: September 19, 2011- October 28, 2011

This six-week rotation was spent in surgical training, including first and second assist during laparoscopic procedures of cholecystectomies, appendectomies, colectomies, and hernia repair. Training also included first and second assist during open hernia repair, colorectal procedures, surgical oncology and breast care, thyroidectomies, and surgical wound care. Attention was also placed on pre-operative and post-operative care, surgical consultations, clinical office hours, and time spent in outpatient wound care.

Dermatology- UPMC Department of Dermatology, Pittsburgh PA: October 31, 2011- December 9, 2011

This six-week elective in dermatology was spent at four different clinical sites providing exposure to dermatological care in the clinic setting with routine full body skin exams, treatment of acne, warts, pre-cancerous/cancerous lesions, yeast and fungal infections, hair loss, scabies, etc. This rotation also provided exposure with Mohs surgery, one week at a cosmetic and skin health clinic with the use of PDL and pearl fractional lasers, as well as time spent in pediatric dermatology.

Orthopedics- Greater Pittsburgh Orthopedic Specialists, Pittsburgh, PA: January 2, 2012- February 10, 2012

This six-week rotation emphasizes surgical training and inpatient post-operative care. Surgical training included observation and assisting during sports medicine and laparoscopic procedures including shoulder arthroscopy, and ACL reconstruction. Training also included observation and assisting in spine surgery, total knee and hip replacements and revision, ORIF procedures, foot and ankle surgery, hand surgery, as well as time spent in the office setting.

Family Practice- Plenary Family Practice, Pittsburgh, PA: February 13, 2012- April 25, 2012

This twelve-week preceptorship of family practice took place in an office setting with a primarily orthodox Jewish based population. Focus was placed on history and physical exam skills, ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic and laboratory studies, treatment plans, and patient education. Mornings were spent on rounds at nursing homes treating the geriatric population.
