An enthusiastic Industrial Engineering graduate student, actively looking for a fall 2015 internship in the fields of Manufacturing/ Operation Research/ Logistics and Supply Chain.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Packaging/ Industrial Engineering Intern at Standard Motor Products, Lewisville, Texas May 2015-Present

1.I was a part of two Kaizen teams-Kitting/Bagging/Clamshell area and compressor rebox and chipboard area in warehouse. Reduced the floor space by almost 80%, increased the labor utilization by almost 90% .

2. Helped in saving $230K for the company by working on the continous improvement techinques.

3.Worked cross functionally with various departments, mainly the product development department,

marketing department and sales to change entire packaging of an entire line.

4. Continuous improvement efforts – Reviewed existing packages, redesigned, tested, and implemented packaging improvements with emphasis on cost optimization (direct or indirect).

5. Ensured new products packaging designs combine appropriate marketing presentation and product protection.

6. Provided technical input into the package design process to ensure that package is designed to meet operational requirements while ensuring desirable aesthetic elements.

7. Worked with suppliers to resolve quality issues and improved packaging cost and performance.

8. Develop standard work of packaging design – operating procedures, standardized practices, material specifications, and package testing methods.

9. Ensured new product packaging designs are aligned to the packaging/distribution capabilities.

10. Qualified new packaging suppliers and perform package testing and qualification.

11. Developed and managed the process to establish and maintain the packaging related data with the ERP system to ensure that the packaging data is available and data integrity is ensured.

ACADEMIC PROJECTS

Have recently conducted Time-Studies experiment on the Industrial Engineering Department office assistant at UTA.

VALUE STRAM MAPPING-Worked on a project of a Starbucks drive-thru operation. Utilizing the concepts of LEAN like 7 wastes, 5S, Kaizen and other continuous improvement techniques to increase the profit and decrease the waiting time for customers.

STATISTICAL PROCESS CONTROL- Using the various tools like XBAR-chart, R-Chart, Control charts, P- chart, I had to work on an ‘Electric Stapler’.

I had to explain that by creating a bill of materials for my product. Had to check and see the defects my products had and analyze the defects using the tools.

MULTIPLE LINEAR REGRESSION- I had to search for a set of data, run various tests on the data like the modified Levene test, check the NPP plot, check for variances, multicollinerarity. Based on that, had to analyze the data, and choose the best possible model for the project using various tests like backward elimination method and best subsets regression method.

Did a project which involved real life planning for 15 years after graduation life. The aim of the project was to find out the Net Present Value (NPV) for the plan. The concepts learnt in class like Net Present Value (NPV), Minimum Acceptable Rate of Return (MARR), Depreciation models, various interest factors were used extensively to find out the net present value. This project helped me realize the principle “We learn by doing”.
