2012-Present Project Manager/Estimator: Developed a “Been there; Done that” attitude toward owning a small business. Trained 21 Peruvian Laborers to become pile drivers including 5 operators. Drove 1,100 12” dia. pipe pile in Bretaña, Peru. Acted as Crane Operator and Supervisor for two Sheet pile Bulkhead projects in Florida. Estimated concrete works on several bridge rehab projects across the country. Managed three LaDOTD projects including a Waskey Bridge, flat- slab decks, and concrete paving.
2006-2012 Small Heavy Construction Company Owner: Several Subcontracts totaling approximatley
$6.7 million. Estimated projects from $18 hundred to $18 million while in partnership with a former bridge superintendent. Developed relationships with paving prime contractors to subcontract vertical concrete and bridge work. Work performed included 14” and 18” concrete pile, timber pile, over 1500 wall feet of sheet pile, approximately 25,000 SF of MSE walls, Type III girder bridge widenings, flat-slab widenings, prestressed post- tensioned deck units, over 10,000 LF of 8ft to 14ft traffic railing soundwalls. Our company installed the first fiberglass
(Zellcomp) bridge deck in Florida.
2001-2006 Project Manager/Superintendent: Several Subcontracts approximatley $2.5 million each consisting of 55,000 SF of MSE walls, two two span bridges, four bridge widenings. Supervised crews ranging from five to twenty people. Projects included 78” Bulb Tee Girders, 18” concrete pile, Flat slab superstructure widenings. Minimized forming costs by the reuse of material, adapted C-49D for formwork on special tee girders. Performed all line and grade required. Project Engineer: $35 million high level bridge replacement. Promoted and took to fruition over-the-top construction method for a 16 span flat-slab deck bridge on pile bents. Helped design falsework for 4100-S2 for the pile driving and superstructure formwork cycle. Added an estimated $1.3 million to bottom line.
2000-2001 Highway 170 Widening, Beaufort, SC $80 million SCDOT Design Build Project consisting of Two River Crossing Bridges, 8.5' Diameter Drilled Shafts, Columns and Caps. Assistant Superintendent: Worked with Drilled Shafts crews on water using zipper can technique.
Project Engineer: Supervised survey crews, assisted with the buyout of project, forming systems and weekly scheduling.
Homer Bypass, Homer, GA $21.5 million GaDOT Contract consisting of Eight double bridges, including stream crossing and wetland crossing.
Superintendent: Managed crews driving HP14x73 pile and substructure concrete. Project Engineer: Preformed line and grade duties, scheduling and costs projections for project. Assisted with owner and subcontractor relations.
1998-2000 I-12 Reconstruction Project, Hammond, LA $21.0 million DOTD Contract consisting of: 178,000 SY of concrete paving, 43,000 TNS Asphalt overlay and Drainage. Project Engineer: Cost and Scheduling, Field Duties, Project Projections. Submitted plan changes to reschedule the project phases and complete work four months ahead of schedule. A + B Bidding assured $ 1.0 million Early Completion Bonus. Area Engineer: Traveled to Heavy Highway Projects training Project Engineers on Bidtek cost control system, Primavera Scheduling and other duties. Set up project budgets from HCSS estimates. Input major Purchase Orders and Subcontracts into cost control system. Project Manager: Managed Site work Projects. Buyout Projects, Complete Contract negotiations, schedule and complete a multiple number of projects in the Detroit Metro area. 1995-1998 Santa Rosa Bay Bridge: $54 million county project consisting of One 3.6-mile segmental bridge
(FIGG Design), 30" Pile Foundations, CIP Footings, Precast Columns. Estimator: Assisted project team estimating pile foundations, casting yard, and superstructure erection. Used HARD$ estimating software.
Project Engineer: Start the project, preparing submittals, scheduling the work and developing the erection procedures.
Appalachicola River Bridge, Blountstown, FL
$31.1 million FL DOT project Consisting of: One 1.5 mile bridge, including 72" Bulb Tee girders, 30" Pile Bents, 5' to 9' Drilled Shafts, 400,000 CY Earthworks, and Rehabilitation. On this project OFL set up a casting yard to produce Girders and Pile. 1992-1995 Reef "A" Remedial, St. Petersburg, FL $1.1 million claim involving FL DEP Marathon Oil Facility, Tampa, FL $0.7 million demolition and rehabilitation of fueling facility. Truman Annex Heavy Civil/Marine Works, Key West, FL $0.5 million dock rehabilitation and utility crossing. Project Engineer: Worked with Superintendents on project scheduling, procurement of permanent materials, completing monthly projections, documenting work, compiling claim costs using Blue Book rates.
1991-1992 Savannah Airport Paving and Lighting Project, Savannah, Ga
$7.7 million Contract consisting of: 80,000 SY of concrete paving, Electrical lighting, and Drainage
Field Engineer: Worked with survey crews for the control of work. Assisted Subcontractor scheduling and management.
Paving Foreman: Responsible for completing hand pours, cast-in-place drainage structures, assisting batch plant operations.
1990-1991 Southwest Bypass, Savannah, GA
$11.5 million Subcontract consisting of: Six bridges, including river crossing and interstate grade separation.
Field Engineer: Line and Grade responsibilities for three superintendents, small form design, scheduling, completing production reports, method statements, and traffic control plans. 1987-1990 Talmadge Memorial Bridge Replacement, Savannah, GA
$45.2 million GA DOT project Consisting of: Nine bridges, including post tensioned box girders, high level post-tensioned prestressed beams, coffer dams, 500,000 CY embankment, reinforced earth walls, asphalt paving.
Field Engineer Trainee: Rod man, Instrument man, Party Chief. Assisted Layout crews with calculations of deck grades. Used many coordinate geometry computer programs for line and grade calculations. Wrote PGL.xlm, an EXCEL macro for line and grade calculations. Pile Driving Crew Laborer: Worked on crew building coffer dams, driving 24'' concrete pile, setting prestressed concrete beams.
Assistant Field Engineer: Supervised field layout crews. Provided technical assistance to layout crews. Supervised field layout of elaborate false work for post-tensioned box girder bridge over I-16.
