Provide day to day support for AIX Servers

Work on tickets as part of BAU

Perform changes on AIX servers.

Server build, configuration.

Log calls for software or hardware issues.

Experience in building Virtualization using VIO on p5 and p6 servers.

Handling NFS server issues, mounting issues etc.,

Extensive experience in AIX volume manger

Setting up Network Installation Manager in the next work, configuring resources and perform client installations.

Configuring new devices in AIX - experience in device management in AIX

Work on AIX users and security. Security hardening in AIX.

Performing server health checks. AIX error reporting tool, figuring out errors and taking necessary actions.

AIX System backup using mksysb image using tape and as file.

Configure NIM master, create required resource to perform installations on remote machines.

Taking system dump in case of any issues with servers and get it analyzed by IBM (by raising software call).

Having good understanding on AIX boot logical volume and fix any booting related issues.

Configuring and monitoring paging spaces and their usage.

Scheduling cron and at jobs.

HMC installation, upgrade and management. Adding new managed server to HMC and administering the managed server.

Create Partitions, performing installation as per the build sheet given by the project.

Maintained roughly 220 servers (AIX servers with different SAP landscapes

Implement and maintain server virtualization using LPAR and DLPAR capable servers.

HMC configuration and management including HMC command line interface, firmware upgrading; Micro-partitioning and shared processor LPARs.

Advanced Virtualization skills - Management of virtualized processor, memory, and I/O resources; VLANs; Virtual I/O (VIO) server including virtual networking and virtual disks configuration.

Work on daily issues that are generated by monitoring tool - file system issues, filesystem housekeeping, and operating system health checks.

Installation and new server build for AIX Operating System. Installing AIX in Complete over write, preservation and migration modes.

Performing installations using NIM master. Building NIM resources, recovering server using mksysb NIM resources etc.,

Perform health checks on servers by monitoring performance related components such as memory, CPU, network and disk activities and analyzing these reports and finding any issues that occur.

Using Dump device facility, invoking dump, changing dump devices, estimating the dump and logging call with IBM to analyze the dump and fix the issues as per IBM suggestion.

Configure interfaces, new devices - installation and configuration. Removing the device and work with ODM entries that are related to devices.

Finding hardware and software errors using errpt and taking necessary actions to fix if any errors occurred. Running snap utility on servers to know server issues and sending the output to IBM for analysis.

Disk replacement techniques, replacing fault disk (mirrored or non mirrored). Working on issues on related to volume management, file system management.

Troubleshooting booting problems, working with bootlist, bosboot commands, fixing file systems integrity issues by running fsck.

Work on System Management Services - SMS and changing boot list order etc., accessing rootvg of the machine that will not boot and fixing any file systems mounting issues etc.

Migrating AIX 5.2 to AIX 5.3. Upgrading TL or ML, Service packs, APARs, and installing other third party software.

Recovering root password. Working with System Resource controllers

Configuring volume groups, logical volumes, file systems and working with these and fixing any issues that occur.

Mirroring and unmirroring rootvg, Exporting and importing volume groups

Configuring system backup (mksysb), exclude files or directories from system backup. Backing up user defined volume group using savevg

LPAR operations including: scheduling operations, troubleshooting activation errors, configuring and using system profiles, and activating and shutting down partitions, Power on/off partitions.

Create partitions, partition profiles, and system profiles, Activate partitions, and Schedule operations for partitions, dynamic operations for adding, moving, and removing memory, processor resources, and I/O slots.

Dynamically add, remove and move resources in the LPARs.

Dedicated and shared processors, virtual processors, processing unit, and allocation of processing power from the shared processor pool etc.,

Installing and configuring VIO Servers, building LPAR clients and sharing IO devices to LPARs.

VIO Server operations, creating virtual adapters and configuring Ethernet or LUNs to LPARs and performing other troubleshooting techniques.
