During design phase all changes in the feed phase and concerns are coordinated with my foreign counter-part as part of day-to-day activity and intra-discipline to make sure in accordance with project quality requirements and project schedule.
Having own areas of responsibility I was involved in process and utility piping PDS modeling, checking of deliverables/isometrics to comply with quality and materials specs.

As Mechanical / Piping Design Specialist, acting as project engineer in the absence of PE, in charge of De-bottlenecking Project such as Treater Modular Merox Unit, Net Gas Hydrocarbon Recovery System, Chiller for CFN rundown, Platformer, Hydrocracker, Visbreaker and other refinery wide revamp projects.
As project Technical Support Designer, I was principally involved in preparing of the Front End Design Engineering which includes scope of work, technical specifications for bid tender. including study of proposed locations of all new major equipment, i.e. compressors, modules, chiller, pumps, exchangers, reactor, etc. also included are the preparation of basic data sheets for instruments, pumps, static equipment and necessary existing drawings in delegation with other disciplines.
Assist bidders in the familiarization of the new locations of the new equipments, tie-ins vicinity, etc., and response to queries during bidding phase including counter estimate.
During design stage, assist / checking of the design of engineering contractor in delegation with other discipline. Response to queries, checking the design and material requirements and alternative materials to make sure in accordance with the design practices of Shell International and Petromin standards.
During major refinery shutdown, conducts / check tie-ins locations and involved in the monitor of works to make sure tie-in shutdown related works can be met. Involved in the coordination / assistance during the construction phase and answer queries of the contractor and reporting to the project engineer and project manager. Discuss / study occurring problems during construction with operations, area engineer and construction contractor which includes outstanding work.
DEBOTTLENECKING PROJECTS (IN-HOUSE DESIGN ENGINEERING)
Modifications of Blending Headers Stations, Cooling Water System, Relief / Flare System, Increase Butane Recovery System, Turbine Inlet / Outlet Piping stressing, Recovery of Naptha and more Project Modification Development Request (PMDR), includes project technical support.
In all of the above projects, I am intensively involved in pipe stress analysis by computer “Simplexs” and Caesar II” software. These includes 24” / 30” flare headers cross-over, stress-strain sensitive equipment, piping at columns, vessels, exchangers etc.
Responsible for the checking of the design / drafting of draftsmen, checked materials requirements, i.e. availability / alternative materials. Assist material department for alternative materials proposed by suppliers in delegating with accepting party QC / Inspector.

Assigned to East / West Pipeline Expansion Project. Involved in project technical support, design and checking of piping, electrical, civil structural and instrumentation drawings designed by Fluor Arabia in coordination with Aramco Project Management Team (APMT) in pump stations project site, including preparation of critical piping and safety instruction data sheets.

Assigned to various projects as follows:
Iraqi Pipeline to Saudi Arabia Project (IPSA), Khuf Gas Increment II Project, Safaniyah Offshore Project, HVAC for control room 323 & workshop / warehouse and canteen at Aramco Ras Tanura Refinery complex, Pipeline Upgrade 1982 and 1983, design (relocation of 56” and 48” launchers for QRT pipelines (Aramco- Abqaiq assignment), Berri / Qatif flowlines with its Christmas trees, PIG launchers / receivers, LPG phase I and II in Ras Tanura Refinery.
In all the above projects, gained experience in pipe stress analysis by Aramco “Triflex” computer method. Example of work is the Safaniyah six well offshore production and test header, and some fin-fan exchanger headers, gained valuable Aramco Design Practices and Standards.
