Overview:

Driven professional with extensive experience in customer service roles as well as in educational and mental health

settings. Certified school counselor in the state of Florida.

Objective:

I would like to get back into an education/ counseling related position. I am currently working as a freelance

linguist/translator.

Education:

• Master’s of Arts in Education (guidance and school counseling track) from the University of Central Florida in

Orlando, Florida. Date of graduation was December of 2004.

• Bachelor’s of Arts in Linguistics and English as a second language (ESOL) from the University of Arts And

Human Sciences in Casablanca, Morocco. Date of graduation was June 1994.

Skills:

• Up to date on new trends in technology. Good grasp of counseling theories and their application in school

settings.

• Experience working with at risk youths in an educational setting and communicating with parents,

teachers and administrators.

• Basic computer skills including Microsoft word, power point, excel and outlook.

Experience working and dealing with different populations from different ethnic backgrounds, and experience working within a

team in a high stress environment.

Related Work Experience:

• Guidance Counselor at Apopka High School in Apopka, Florida. 2005 to 2008. Duties revolved around the

academic, social and personal well being of students. These duties included but were not limited to providing

schedules, making schedule changes whenever appropriate and necessary, providing post secondary information and

assisting with financial aid information and the college admission process. Other duties included classroom visitations,

standardized test proctoring (FCAT, SAT, PSAT and ACT), arranging parent teacher conferences, maintaining contact

with the parents and guardians, and coordinating the end of year graduation ceremony. I worked closely with school

volunteers, both adults and students, and supervised their activities in the College and Career room. I also participated

in different workshops designed to provide extra information to help the school and the community as a whole, and

implemented use of new data program in the counseling office to help counselors track student progress.

Accomplishments: I helped prevent a lot of dropouts through counseling and providing alternatives like GED and technical

schools.

Through my constant monitoring and counseling, I was able to raise my students’ test scores and contribute to improving the

overall school grade. I also made crucial decisions regarding my students such as putting them in or taking them out of certain

classes, which always reflected positively on their academic results.

• Practicum Intern at UCF in Orlando, Florida. Fall of 2003.I worked as a supervised counselor in the UCF

counseling center. This was one of the requirements I had to meet as a graduate student. My counseling sessions were

with children, couples and adults and they were all filmed, reviewed and evaluated. I also worked with at risk juveniles

at CEP (Community Education Partners), which is an alternative school for at risk students, located in Orlando. The

counseling process involved in general greeting, doing an intake and a behavioral assessment, conducting the session,

then taking case notes and listening to the supervisor’s feedback.

• Guidance Intern at Freedom High School in Orlando, Florida. 2004/2005. I assisted the guidance department

in its day to day activities and duties. I completed 600 required contact and non contact hours for the purpose of

graduating from the counseling program of the University of Central Florida.

• Unrelated Work Experience:

• Self employed freelance translator. June 2012 to present

• Civilian Arabic Translator for US Troops in Iraq. 2008 to 2012. I worked as a civilian translator for private

defense contractor L-3 Communications. I was hired to participate in the linguist support program aimed at

supporting the linguistic needs of the deployed US troops in Iraq. My assignments were in camp Taji and camp

Victory where I participated in missions, performed oral interpretations in different types of settings, did

document examination and translated training modules in word and power point formats. While deployed, I held

a secret security clearance.

Accomplishments: I was frequently complimented on the quality of my translations and the timely manner in which they

were done.

I helped provide my unit with priceless knowledge that they said was crucial in the different missions and interactions with the

local populace.

I played an important role in avoiding costly grammatical and cultural mistakes in different products, which resulted in effective

and strong messages, which in turn resulted in record numbers of Iraqis working for us and supporting our vision of a free and

safe Iraq.

• Customer Service Representative at the Hertz Corporation in Orlando, Florida. From 2000 to 2005. Duties

included performing car rental transactions, selling optional services such as additional coverages, gas and

vehicle upgrades and solving client complaints. Part of my duties were backstage tasks in the “gold/VIP” booth

including assigning the right vehicles with the right equipment to the right customers, providing fast and

courteous service and making sure rental cars are ready and problem free. I also worked in the “yellow jacket”

booth, where I performed customer service duties including handing out maps, helping customers with directions

and exchanging vehicles when necessary.

Accomplishments: My customer service skills were very high, which earned me a few rewards and one “Employee of the

month” title.

I was able to meet the sales quotas consistently.

I worked very well under pressure and was able to exceed customer service expectations.

• Cultural Exchange Participant in the Walt Disney World International Program in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

From 1995 to 1996, and from 1997 to 1999. I was hired from my native Morocco to partake of Epcot Center’s

exchange program. I represented Morocco at its exhibit by working in the merchandise stores, giving guided

tours to visitors and taking part in several cultural events around the Disney parks that were geared towards

making people familiar with the culture and history of Morocco. Part of this unique program was sharing an

apartment with other representatives of other countries such as Germany, Italy and Canada. The program also

offered a variety of opportunities for further education and seminars pertaining to the fields of business,

computers and the Disney culture in general.

Accomplishments: I helped foster cross cultural tolerance and also gave a good image about my country of origin and its culture.

I had a good sales record as I was able to sell a lot of Disney related merchandise and also scored excellent on different customer

service evaluations.

Gaps:

The periods unaccounted for were either periods of unemployment or periods in which I had short term jobs .

Interests and Hobbies:

I have a variety of interests, most of which are centered on people, languages and different cultures. I enjoy extensive

reading, literature, politics, current affairs, travel, music and issues related to education .

Research Projects:

I have completed a graduate portfolio, which in my program replaced the thesis requirement. This portfolio is a binder

which contains all the major projects and papers I had to do while in graduate school. The portfolio was presented to the intern

supervisor in front of the other students. All my work, including my research paper, graduate portfolio, as well as school

transcripts and letters of recommendation are available for review upon request.
