via the NDMP protocol.
Oracle Exadata Database Machine X2-8 (JDA app); led to the
provisioning and re-platforming of IBM AIX servers to Exadata Machine.
Increased database performance by a factor of 6x at an average of 10%
server utilization.
Initiated, implemented and standardized Oracle GoldenGate on Exadata
Database Machine Configuration using DBFS (database files system) ;
significantly simplifying switchover/failover operations to its DR site.
Analyze & solution production database SQL query regressions and
instance tuning.
Develop and maintain ownership for enterprise scripts that are defined as part of the domain standards.
Contribute to the problem management process by performing holistic analysis from a database design and
architecture perspective.
Design consulting to the project teams as SME for the database technologies domain.
Participate as the SME in setting strategic and tactical direction of patch and release management as it pertains to
this domain.
Participate as the SME in the Database domain, in the intake process for feasibility study for business proposals,
as well as costing exercises for the various projects.
Be the SME for the design of the Database management and monitoring solutions, including but not limited to
Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM).
Investigate new technologies and identify opportunities where these technologies can enhance LCL’s capabilities
in a cost-effective manner.
Aug 2009 – Aug 2012 - BlackBerry - Senior Principal DBA
Responsible for administering 6 Oracle RAC databases and 3 Exadata Database Machines globally distributed across
Singapore, England, and North America.
Migrated each of the six Oracle RAC databases from Linux x86-64 to HP-UX Itanium Superdomes including Oracle
GoldenGate instances. During test cycle conducted 2x and 3x stress tests using HP load runner.
Managed Exadata compute nodes and cell nodes during disk replacement occurrences transparent to end user
and applications.
Scripted a 3 prong backup strategy across all hubs to minimize recovery time s in the event of media failure and to
reduce chances of failing over to the DR site.
Led m y peers through a resolution of a double disk fault failure causing impacts and outages to 4 databases.
Avoided a disaster recovery implementation, subverting a real disaster and stream lined procedures for planned
DR exercises for each of the 6 Oracle RAC databases.
Implemented a number of automation scripts such as log maintenance, event alerting, and OGG replication failures,
Data Guard monitoring.
Participated in developing a WIKI website to augment all sorts of DBA artefacts.
Aided in the implementation of a 6 way (master-master) replication for the use of sharing global data between
manufacturing sites globally.
Consolidated OGG extract/replicat parameter files f or ease of use and management across OGG instances.
Implemented an integration script to pull data from three CPU chip vendors (QC, TI, Marvell) ftp site and load its
data in the Manufacturing databases in which enhanced the BlackBerry Security Infrastruct ure Services.
Frequently sought out to troubleshoot network latency issues in programs such a Label Print and ASY (Assembly)
with use of event 10046 trace data.
Successfully developed, tested, documented, and implemented DR switchover exercises where BlackBerry (BB)
would run their businesses off the DR site for the duration of 1 week. DR implementations were conducted on a
yearly basis.
Exposed a network latency problem between Singapore and England during an initial Data Guard monitoring
script that ultimately led to an MPLS bandwidth increase from 75Mbps to 150Mbps on the Verizon network.
Upgraded Oracle RAC 10g databases to 11gR2 on all 6 hubs geographically dispersed over 3 continents.
Introduced and coached peers on Oracle active duplication refreshes rather than their habitual QA refreshes via
export/import processes. A reusable artefact that wad documented in our WIKI.

Migrated 60TB archive database from expensive HP’s XP2400 disk arrays to NetApp filers in an attempt to lower
cost of ownership.
Jan 1997 – Aug 2009 - CGI - Architecture & Technology - Senior Technical Consultant
Generally dealt from simple database administration, to coaching peers, mentoring, POCs, to foc used areas of code
optimization, instance tuning, to infrastructure planning and high availability solutions and real application testing, Oracle
Transparent Gateway for Teradata, patching, migrating, and upgrading from varying Oracle releases to current major
release at the time of planning for our major client Bell Canada, partners, and subsidiaries. The following applications are
some of the systems worked on during my tenure and not limited to these:
Bell ExpressVu – iTV Upgrade
Order Max
Service Assurance DW
Scorecard
Enhanced Information Access (EIA) – reporting repository and analysis of segmentation and direct marketing
Customer Master File (CMF)
HP-UX UNIX Administration / Oracle Administration
Administered a multitude of Oracle databases on HP-UX and Sun Solaris platforms. Responsible for schema
maintenance, tuning Oracle instances, troubleshooting, tracing SQL*Plus sessions, optimizing execution plans,
upgrading UNIX OS and Oracle databases.
Planned, tested, and documented Y2K HP-UX patching strategy to enable a unified source repository for HP -UX
Unix administrators to execute accordingly.
Active use of Oracle diagnostic tools such as StatsPack, tkprof, explain plan, 10046 traces, and dbms_stat s.
Developed a health check monitoring shell script integrated with on-call duty schedule page outs, email, syslog,
and with remedy ticket creating using a remedy API.
Frequently cloned databases for different software lifecycles.
Mar 1993 – Jan 1997 Bell Sygma - Systems Management - VAX/VMS & UNIX Administrator
Responsible for the administration of a 4 node VAX/VMS cluster and managing a staff of 4 developers.
Responded to numerous requests per day for client management assistance on their business applica tions.
Supported 400 concurrent users and carried 24/7 pager support.
Jan 1989 – Feb 1993 Bell Canada – Bell Sales & Service - Technical Manager
Trained 4 member staff on DECnet LAT protocol, VAX/VMS clusters and networking concepts.
