University of Massachusetts-Amherst, MA May 2015

Candidate-Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering – GPA: 3.56

Certificate: Biochemical Engineering Concentration

OSHA General Industry and Health

Academic Project:

- Collaborate with three other teammates to carry out the experiment, coordinated and facilitated the research

paper with another researcher and presented the contents and findings to over 20 peers and the professor

Senior Lab Project Fall 2014

Biodiesels

• Evaluated reaction kinetics with varying catalyst concentration

• Analyzed the result of water test, titration, high-performance liquid chromatography, and

kinematic viscosity.

Distillation

• Achieved 95% purity product of methanol in distillate and water in bottoms

• Analyzed the result of the purity of methanol at varies reflux ratio via gas chromatography and

tray efficiency by applying the Murphree Tray Efficiency Equation.

Heat Exchange

• Developed PID parameters by using empirical process models and fine tuning the PID parameters

• Designed heat exchanger with PID controller via MatLab software

• Comparing the result of empirical process models and Ziegler-Nichols and Tyreus-Luyben

methods for PID controller

Permeation

• Separated mixture of 80 mole % He and 20 mole % O2 using a single and two parallel Permea™

permeation devices in a countercurrent configuration

• Calculated the permeance (Q’) and separation factor (α*) for the system with MatLab via Davis

and Sandall Differential Model

Biotech Processing Engineering Lab Spring, 2015

• Subcloned human phosphatase hPP1 into pMAL-c5x plasmid and genetically transformed with

E.coil. Screened and selected harboring plasmid-the NEB Express® strain G3.

• Designed and perfomed a 5-liter scale fermentation process to express maximal amount of hPP1

attainable in fermentor based on the data collected from a small-scale.

• Performed single-stage purification of hPP1 using affinity chromatography (AC), ion exchange

chromatography (IEC) and size exclusion chromatography (SEC).

• Combined all the data gathered in prior experiments to design and carry out a multi-stage

purification process to achieve a highly pure hPP1 product with a substantial percent yield

(followed by cell disruption, ammonium sulfate precipitate, SEC and AC).
