. Responsible for building and maintaining Network Operations Center
(NOC). Responsibilities include green field build out of a distributed
NOC. This build out included selecting technologies such as Altiris
Monitoring Solution, Solarwinds Network Performance Monitor, and
Security Onion Intrusion Detection System. I was also responsible for
building the policies and procedures including SLAs for newly created
roles. I personally developed integration points between technologies
for more complete transparency and reporting capabilities. Finally I
was responsible for maintaining relationships between IT and Key
Business Divisions.
. IT Leader responsible for insourcing infrastructure services. IT
leader during a large insourcing project that involved bringing all
infrastructure services in house. Services include security, server,
voice, LAN/WAN, desktop, and helpdesk support; resulting in material
cost savings, increased efficiencies, and higher customer satisfaction
due to stream lined processes.
. Lead a team that integrated companies' technologies post merger.
Leader for integration of new acquisition. Technologies integrated
include LAN/WAN, Firewalls, Load Balancers, Security Appliances,
domain, email, VoIP phone systems, application and supporting utility
servers.
. Managed the move of multiple operating centers including.
Responsibilities included vendor management, business coordination,
planning of all technical aspects, and oversight of implementation.
. Managed and played a critical technical role in the roll out of a
multisite Linux based Intrusion Detection System. Working with lead
network engineer multiple Linux based IDS systems were deployed across
operating centers and data centers to gain visibility into an
additional layer of security. Technology has been rolled out to adhere
to the principles of Network Security Monitor (NSM) working in
conjunction with Continuous Monitoring (CM).
. Prepared for, maintained vigilance through, and recovered from
hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav, and Ike. Part of a business team
that prepared our company for 4 major hurricanes, also lead in
technical preparedness for these hurricanes. During these hurricanes,
monitored the data center as well as the Wide Area Network and kept
the CEO and other executives up to date. Post Katrina and Rita, was
part of a 2 person team allowed into the disaster zones to scout out
damage and plan recovery. During the first weeks after these
disasters, was the primary decision maker in the chain of events that
lead to a quick and successful recovery. Finally post hurricanes,
created an environment that would allow better redirection of
resources to allow less down time in the event of another disaster
while continuing to plan for future growth toward full business
continuity.
. Designed and implemented multiple policies that helped my company
become Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) & PCI Compliant. Policies such as network
usage, change management, and ID management are just some of the
policies created to help streamline IT operations and mitigate risk.
These policies were successfully rolled out and maintained.
. Member of leadership team engaged to redesign organization. Selected
by CIO to assist with the reorganization of the IT roles and
responsibilities including evaluation of management chain and career
paths.
. Responsible for migrating WAN to maintain stability and utilize latest
technologies. Over the past 10 years I have migrated from legacy WAN
technologies to well accepted WAN technologies. For example: Point to
point -> MPLS (Approximately 220 T1s, Multiple DS3s and OC3s) -> MPLS
(Ethernet Circuits) -> Researching VPLS to fit our company's needs.
. IT Focus Group Advisor. Selected by CIO to act in an advisory capacity
for the IT Focus group.
Public Systems Associates - Baton Rouge, LA June 2001
- February 2005
Systems Administrator
. Lead major project in design, plan, purchase, and implementation of
automated security system for Louisiana State Capitol complex. Scope
includes multipoint access of full complex; fully digital camera
system, and plans for wireless monitoring of all cameras.
. Team member in roll out of wireless LAN. Using latest wireless
technology, a multi-SSID WLAN was rolled out and used in tandem with
Microsoft's ISA Server 2004. This combination allows for both public
and private access to the wireless system giving authorized users an
encrypted pipeline to the internal network, while giving public access
to only the internet.
. Team leader during upgrade of the State Capitol complex's network.
Organized a team of 10 people to upgrade all network equipment in the
capitol complex. Equipment ranged from a new backbone down to more
than 40 switches. Upgrade increased network bandwidth 10 fold and
users had 0 down time during working hours.
. Team member in successful implementation of disaster recovery with
regard to Exchange email system. Corruption in the exchange database
required us to run extensive repair utilities on the database as well
as recover a previously backed up database. Once the existing database
was repaired and the lost data was recovered we moved all data to more
robust hardware.
. Significantly reduced work load by and improved efficiency by 10%
department-wide by designing and implementing automated software
solutions. These solutions were used in a variety of ways ranging from
building wide upgrades to day to day tasks. Examples are original
extension to the "users and computers" snap-in which allows active
directory user data to be transferred to third party software, and
scripts designed to automate upgrade processes throughout building.
. Redesigned backup operations to reduce processing time spent by 30%
and cost by 60%. This change cut time spent by reorganizing the
handling and storing of both offsite and onsite storage, resulting in
decreased amount of server down time in cases of lost and corrupt
data.
. Acting liaison between company's upper management and top elected
Louisiana state officials. Realized that communication difficulties
where severely damaging relations between the two parties. Met with
state officials and after researching past meetings, isolated
communication barriers, and changed approach to discussions. Existing
conflicts were dissolved which allowed two parties to resume mutually
beneficial relations.
