PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN AS A PART OF ACADEMIC CURRICULUM
M-TECH
III and IV SEMESTER:
Title: “Design and Performance Analysis of Improved MIMO Antenna by Mutual
Coupling Suppression between Elements”.
Assisted by: Yamuna Devi CR, Associate Professor, dept. of TCE, Dr.AIT, Chandrakala V,
Asst. Professor, dept. of TCE, Dr.AIT, Bengaluru, Pradeep AS, Asst. Professor,
dept. of ECE, GEC, Huvinahadagali.
Project Duration: July 2013- May 2014.
Tools used: High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) V.13.
Description: The project aimed at countering Mutual coupling effects. The mutual coupling or isolation
between closely packed antenna elements is important in a number of applications. These include systems relying
on array antennas like multiple input multiple output (MIMO) wireless communication systems. Achieving low
mutual coupling between closely-packed antenna elements is a challenging task. The objective of this project was
to design and simulate dual PIFA microstrip antenna at resonant frequency 2.5GHz. Special attention has been
paid to effectively reduce the mutual coupling and also the size of the antenna while improving the antenna
performance in terms of gain, bandwidth, VSWR. Dual PIFA antennas are widely used in mobiles.
II SEMESTER:
Title: “Implementation of OFDM in DVB-T based on non linear channels in
wireless communications”.
Assisted by: Chandrakala V, Assistant professor, department of TCE, Dr.AIT, Bengaluru
Project Duration: March 2013- June 2013
Tools used: MATLAB
Description: In this project Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing ( OFDM) is used to
overcome ISI and also to cope with high data rates, high reliability and throughput. It is considered for one of the
major applications, DVB-T Terrestrial Digital Video Broadcast and its performance is analyzed for 4 QAM
modulation scheme over AWGN-Additive White Gaussian Noise, Rayleigh and Rician channels. A simulation
model was created in Matlab. The constellation diagrams of 4 QAM and the Bit-error-rate v/s SNR plot was
observed over three channels for 2k and 8k mode carriers of DVB-T and conclusion was drawn.
I SEMESTER:
Title: “Design and Implementation of Low power Root Raised Cosine filter for 4G
using FPGA”.
Organization: World Serve Education.
Assisted by: Sudhir Rao, Research Associate, IISC, Bengaluru and Praveen KB, Assistant
Professor, Dr. AIT, Bengaluru.
Project Duration: Nov 2012- Feb 2013.
Tools/Languages used: MODELSIM/ Verilog.
Description: The project aimed at countering Inter Symbol Interference by using Root Raised
Cosine filter. Existing filters operate at sampling frequency of fs=15.36MHz with an attenuation of -50dB. But in
this project the filter is made to operate at sampling frequency of fs=3.84MHz without reaching the attenuation
limit of -33dB to reduce adjacent channel interference. Since frequency is directly proportional to power, reducing
frequency by a factor of 4 reduces the power by a factor of 4. Usually the position of decimators is after the filter
but in this project the decimators are placed before filters. A new architecture was developed to place the
decimators ahead of filters and a number of filters, decimators in parallel and flip flops were used for this.
BE Project
Title: “Customizable Keyboard Using Printed Paper with PC Interface”.
Organization: Delta Labs, Bengaluru.
Assisted by: Nikhil S Arora, ISRO R&D, Bengaluru, Shilpa, Lecturer, AIT, Bangalore.
Team Size: 4.
Project Duration: Jan 2012- June 2012.
Tools/Languages used: C Programming, Keil µvision, Hex Editor, Flash Magic, Hercules.
Technique used: Real-Time Image Processing, Finger Detection, Encoding and Decoding, RF Transmission
and Reception, Serial Communication.
Description: The aim of the project was to design a PC keyboard using paper and sensor . The
required layout of the keyboard is printed on the paper. A camera was used to capture the image of the finger
pressing the key. We used the digital image processing technique to convert the analog image to codes which were
then processed in a microcontroller (P89V51RD2). The key is recognized from the code written in keil µvision
and loaded onto the microcontroller. We have performed REAL TIME IMAGE PROCESSING using KEIL. The
key is wirelessly transmitted using RF transmitter and RF receiver to a PS2 Protocol which decodes the signal into
PC format and sends the input to PC through PS2 Port.
