Research Experience
I have been involved in research as Dr. Curnew's research assistant since
2012 in Hamilton. My responsibilities included meeting with study
investigators to discuss any issues that may arise during the study, and
enquire how correctly to fill out the CRF. I was also responsible for
screening and enrolling participants, gathering and completing their CRFs,

from the grossing lab through to microscopic examination. Dr. Moid held
teaching sessions in which I was able to strengthen my ability to identify
and comment on the histological features of normal tissue. I was given the
opportunity to derive a diagnosis based on microscopic examination and
correlation with clinical history. Different techniques of sampling and
analysing specimens were discussed during morning grossing rounds and
afternoon pathology rounds.

The ADCOL study is a year long prospective study of patients that are
taking Lodalis in the treatment of their hyperlipidemia that is not
satisfactorily controlled with lipid lowering agents, such as Lipitor or
Crestor. Patients are asked to fill out a questionnaire during their first
visit then subsequently on their 3, 6, 9, and 12 months visits. Each visit
will be accompanied with appropriate lipid profiles to assess the
effectiveness of Lodalis.

The SPRINT AF trial (Stroke Prevention and Rhythm INTervention in Atrial
Fibrillation) was two-phase trial meant to characterize stroke prevention
modalities in Canadian adults with atrial fibrillation. It assessed the
various therapies that are implemented and provide an understanding of why
certain drugs are chosen over others in treatment of these patients. Phase
one is a chart audit of 1000 patients that is now complete. Phase two will
be recruitment of three thousand patients over a twelve months period.

The ADHERE study was a retrospective study meant to assess cholesterol
control in patients who met the criteria of being at risk of cardiovascular
disease. Additionally, the study also assessed the usefulness of Lodalis in
controlling hypercholesterolemia. I was required to perform a chart audit
of 20 000 EMR and narrow the results as per study inclusion criteria. The
results for selected patients were directly entered online into the study
database.

I enjoy fencing, rock climbing, tai chi, reading history, and spending time
