Engineering Experience
Aegion [CRTS] Houston, Tx.
Mechanical Engineer, 01/2014 to Present
Hired as an R&D engineer for new product development of pipeline robots in small diameter pipe.
Had to step into variety of successful quick turnaround projects to meet volatile requirements and
deadlines. Worked closely with manufacturing to ensure quality & achieve faster design iterations
between testing.
Project Highlights:
• Pipeline Robots: Generated concepts for internal pipe tap servicing robot to operate in
a 6” fresh water pipeline. This complete cycle project could increase revenue from $5M to
$300M in 4 years. The iTap robot is 6 DOF system reduces cycle time by 80%.
• Double Joint Equipment: Designed internal pipe cleaning & coating systems as part of
a $26M double joint plant project which was being built for the first time in 30 years from
scratch. Developed the plant layout for blasting, heating & coating. Worked with vendors
on the project to complete the hydraulic & pneumatic systems.
• Induction Heating Coils: Involved in R&D for the induction heating coils for thermal
calculations, power requirements, cooling specifications and prototype build. Performed
investigation on existing design to evaluate high cycle times compared to market and
recommended high frequency power source solution.
Stanley Black & Decker [CRC-HCL] Tulsa, OK.
Lead Mechanical Engineer, 03/2012 to 12/2013
I was a lead engineer assigned to work on multiple projects & product lines simultaneously with a
team of 6. CRC manufactures heavy equipment used in laying pipe-line. Fit in seamlessly in spite
of this being a completely new domain because of my adaptability & learning skills.
Project Highlights:
• Pipe Bending Machines: Structural analysis of the pipe bending machine frame to
make it efficient and prevent break down. Designed fixtures to reduce build time and
manufacturing errors. Employed alternate manufacturing methods for the bending die to
reduce lead time from 12 to 2 weeks.
• Internal Pipe Line-up Clamps & Mandrels: Redesigned the entire product line from
size specific to pipe range system, thereby having to maintain minimal inventory &
interchangeability.
• Value Engineering: Performed value analysis on the 6-20 pipe bender to understand
the manufacturing costs and suggested alternate designs to reduce cost by 15%. Using
that budget enhanced functionality by deploying a solenoid directional valve.
Axcelis Technologies [HCL] Beverly, MA.
Lead Mechanical Engineer, 12/2007 to 02/2012
Started working as a junior mechanical engineer in sustaining engineering team to support
production and maintain product life cycle. Continued good work in the field issues resolution and
new product development teams. Instrumental in the launch of high current single wafer ion
implanter.
Project Highlights:
• Ion Implanters: Designed and developed magnetic confinement tunnel assembly to
prevent beam blow-up in the high current ion implanters. This improved performance and
eliminated particle issues in the beam path.
• Cleaning & Curing Tools: Designed enclosures for high voltage time of flight PCB
used in CCS tools. Developed cooling lines within the chuck to reduce temperature
distortion on wafer. Generated installation, calibration & troubleshoot procedures.
• Field Issues Resolution: Designed retrofit & upgrade kits for tools installed in the field
with issues. This generated aftermarket revenue close to 10% of total revenue.
Implemented a methodology to transfer the retrofits into the new product design.
• Sustaining Engineering: Managed a group of 8 including engineers and drafters to
ensure smooth production of semi-conductor equipment. Part of engineering design
review board to approve & release ECNs.
