SUMMARY:

I have 20 years experience working in the Automotive Industry in gas stations, independent shops and car dealerships. I am interested in changing my career direction away from the "hands-on" aspect of being a mechanic and moving towards a Parts Counterperson or a Service Advisor.

OBJECTIVE:

To obtain a position applying my knowledge of automotive parts, tools and their function, and to evaluate the problem(s) a car has and estimate the time and cost of repair. I would also like to aide customers with their automobile problems and advise them as to what they would need to have a safe, reliable car.

EDUCATION:

Graduated Walt Whitman High School, Huntington Station, NY, June, 1998

Wilson Technical School, Northport, NY, 1998-2000

AWARDS:

Certificate for winning The Greater New York Auto Dealers Association, "Competition Infinity" at the Javits Center, Manhattan, NY

EXPERIENCE:

Mechanic - Anjon Automotive, Huntington Station, NY, January, 2013-April, 2014

Test drove vehicles to determine which service or maintenance might need to be addressed. Tested components and systems using equipment such as infrared engine analyzers, compression guages and computerised diagnostic devices. Repair, reline, replace and adjust brakes. Follow checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings and other potentially troublesome areas. Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications and tune-ups. Test and adjust repaired systems to meet manufacturer's performance specifications. Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear using micrometers, calipers and guages. Rewire ignition systems, lights and instrument panels. Overhaul or replace carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters and pumps. Tune auto engines to ensure proper and efficient functioning. Maintained cleanlines of work areas.

I was responsible for the everyday function of the shop and the supervision of gas attendents (on Long Island, many stations have pump attendants) when the owner was not present. I checked the level of gas and ordered when needed. I was focused on maintaining a high level of customer service and acquired a steady flow of returning, satisfied customers.

Mechanic - State University of New York, Old Westbury, NY, 2008-2012

At SUNY, I was responsible for the maintenance of the University cars, trucks, buses and vans. I kept all the grounds equipment clean and ran routine mechanical checks to keep them in excellent running condition. I also took care of the Emergency Generators for all of the University buildings. The gas pump was monitored and gas was ordered accordingly for all vehicles and equipment.

Mechanic - Pape Chevrolet, Huntington, NY (which became Huntington Chevrolet), Huntington, NY, 1998-2007

Was a New York State Veicle Inspector. I repaired and maintained cars, trucks and buses along with all necessary paperwork used at the dealership. Experienced in electrical repair and mechanical repair. Maintained electrical systems, gas equipment and diesel equipment. Inspected and tested equipment and made the necessary repairs or adjustments. Used hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, electrical and electronic testing devices, hoists and lifts and pullers. I was a liaison between the customer and Sales to suggest additional preventive maintenance. Assisted customers in purchasing parts and supplies they might need.
