Worked on DSP based motor drives and control projects
Supervised undergraduate students in senior design projects and Graduate students in their thesis
Project I
A Speed controller for a Brushless DC (BLDC) motor with observer & Extended Kalman Filter (EKF)
A PID controller is designed using LQR technique, which is quickly react to the variation of the reference input
The speed deviation is around 25% with observer and 10% with EKF
The control signal variation and the transient time are comparatively high in observer
The voltage deviation is improved significantly with reduced transient time using EKF algorithms
The efficiency of the overall system is 82% with observer and 89% with EKF
Implementation is carried out using DS 1104 dSPACE
Project II
A speed controller for a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) with observer combined with Extended Kalman Filter (EKF)
Implemented a drive system by observer based PID controller combined with the EKF
The PID controller parameters are tuned using LQR technique
The controller is constructed to achieve a precise estimation of the speed and current
With the overall system enhancement, the control signal variation reduced by 35% as well as the speed variation by 80%.The optimal efficiency of 94% is achieved
The model, simulation and analysis are done using MATLAB/Simulink environment
The implementation of the model is carried out on RTI hardware through dSPACE expansion box
