PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
November 2000 – March 2015, Network Design Engineer, Sprint/Nextel, Reston, VA
Worked in Sprint Network R&D department as a design/test/certification engineer for Enhanced Account Mediation (EAMS) platform which process more than 4 billion billing records daily and generate 80% company’s revenue.
Responsible for reviewing requirements for system changes. Analyzed system changes and developed test cases for advanced telecommunication systems by translating change requirements (CR) or maintenance requirements (MR) into final design. Worked closely with different vendors to support various wireless network infrastructures including Alcatel-Lucent ECP, Ericsson-Nortel DMS-MTX, Lucent Plexus, AAA, PDSN, Samsung, WSS, IMS, SMS, Sonar, MAF, Gurvus, MPS, EDW, CRE, etc. Verify changes before changes are deployed nationwide.
Worked on Layer 2/3 network system. Responsible for troubleshooting any connection issue between new or existing network infrastructures from different vendors such as BridgeWater AAA, Ericsson-Nortel MTX, Alcatel-Lucent ECP, Samsung WSS, HPPT, NGVN, IMS, Plexus SWAT, etc.. Managed large scale Sprint mediation network and dealt with various interface protocols including Radius, Diameter, Security RTB (Real Time Billing), HiCapAMA, and ssh/scp/sftp. Very familiar with debugging tools such as Unix tcpdump, Wireshrink, Ethereal.
Maintained Sprint Account Mediation system and multiple database instances of Oracle Database 11g running on HP-Blade Enclosure system. Managed server, SAN disks, and network setup, configuration, monitoring by using HP Onboard Administrator. Kept Oracle Server and Account Mediation applications highly available using HP ServiceGuard, Veritas Cluster Manager (VCS 5.5 and VOM6.0). Monitored the system performance by enhanced Linux tools such as top, glanceplus and HP-OpenView Performance Management for any system performance, load balance, capacity and memory leakage issue. Troubleshot any environment issues captured in system/application errorlog.
Major contributor for migrating Account Mediation System from HP-Unix 11.23 to Redhat Enterprise Linux 5.5 in order to cut the company’s capital expensive. Migrated HP ServiceGuard to Veritas Cluster Manager (VCS 5.5 and VOM6.0). Worked on design, configuration and troubleshooting the migration process.
Troubleshot data processing issues utilizing database tools, such as, Toad and Oracle SQL Developer.
Used X Window Terminal Emulators such as Hummingbird Exceed, SecureCRT, VNC, Putty, SSH, SCP and SFTP to securely access business applications running on UNIX, Linux.
Worked on the evolution of EAMS (Enhanced Account Mediation System) for Sprint mediation network. Had leading roles in integration and certification of Sprint mediation system, which collects and reformats CDR’s, UDR’s, and IPDR’s billing records for Sprint Wireless and Wireline Networks.
Acted as a 1st tier billing issue supporter for Sprint Globe Release 7x18 by attending bridge calls, provide analyzing root causes and have quick fixes.
Performed billing regression tests for billing certifications for all major upstream switch changes to ensure no billing errors introduced in the Network.
Worked closely with cross-function vendors. Wrote detailed design specifications, outlined user test cases, prepare and executed test plans, resolved challenging hardware and software issues, documented certification results, hosted release review and MOP walk-through meetings. All releases were subject to strict auditing by both Sprint Corporate Audit Services and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Control 63 Audits.
Worked on account mediation system load balance and performance analysis according to billing records load testing and daily account dashboard reports. Provided suggestions on optimizing of CPU, memory, SAN disk and hardware configuration. Worked with cross team to run monthly account billing files /peak hour account billing files through and calculated the process time, memory usage and disk size.
Jul 1992 – May 1995, Software Engineer, Guangzhou Broadcasting & TV Bureau, Guangzhou, China
Designed and implemented data models and structures based on multiple data sources and platform requirements
Developed database applications using dBASE and dBASE-plus on DOS platform and provided customer support by providing training and consulting.
Aug 1983 – Jun 1992, Lab Support Engineer, Xinlian, INC., Nanjing, China
Provided technical support for lab radio test equipment, such as, signal generators (DC to 26 GHz), sweep frequency generators, spectrum analyzers (0.01Hz to 40GHz), pulse signal generators, oscilloscopes, x-y plotters, Power meters, frequency counters (DC to 26 GHz), S parameter (vector or scalar) network analyzers (100MHz to 18 GHz)
Troubleshooted and repaired many different kind of lab radio test equipment, such as, signal generators (DC to 26 GHz), sweep frequency generators, spectrum analyzers (0.01Hz to 40GHz), pulse signal generators, oscilloscopes, x-y plotters, Power meters, frequency counters (DC to 26 GHz), S parameter (vector or scalar) network analyzers (100MHz to 18 GHz)
