Resume:

Please accept this letter as my expressed interest in the nurse practitioner position posted. I believe that my education and the considerable variety of clinical medical experiences I have gained in previous clinical work makes me an ideal candidate for such a position.

I am a former active duty Air Force Captain. I worked at Wilford Hall in the women’s health clinic, providing both obstetric/gynecology services along with primary care. I was involved with teaching childbirth education/lactation classes as well as instruction on healthy living in primary care. I then functioned at Dover AFB as the women’s health clinic nurse manager diagnosing/managing the dysplasia clinic along with high risk obstetric NST patients and gestational diabetics. Thereafter in California I obtained my international board certification as a lactation consultant to augment my NP practice. I worked in a private practice OB/Gyn clinic there doing routine OB/Gyn as well as providing CME lectures on lactation to health care providers. During this time I also did home visits for mothers/babies with failure to thrive as well as other psychosocial/maternal child health issues with an emphasis in promoting optimal health and well being for the family unit. These experiences have greatly expanded my skills in providing both women’s health and primary care to women of all ages. In addition to my experiences as a nurse practitioner, I have worked as a registered nurse inpatient, outpatient, and in the public health setting.

I have recently regained national board certification and Texas FNP licensure after being out of the NP arena for several years. This was a joint decision based on starting a family, my husbands’ frequent deployments, frequent moves, and caring for my ailing elderly parents. Since then he has retired, my children are now all school aged, and we are not leaving San Antonio (yea!). I have worked the last 2 years here in San Antonio as a RN/IBCLC and completed 400 hours of clinical refresher training for my NP.

The opportunity to work in women’s health/primary will allow me to continue to work in my area of passion. I welcome the challenge to work in collaboration with physicians, other medical staff, patients and their families, I am confident that I can make a valuable contribution to your department.

Attached to this cover letter is a copy of my resume, which highlights my experiences and skills. Letters of recommendations will also be available upon your request. I’m looking forward to hear from you in the near future. Feel free to reach me anytime for questions.

Best,

Maria I. Nicolas, MS, FNP-BC, RN, IBCLC
