Research Assistant – National Microbiology Lab (Winnipeg, MB) May 2013 – Aug 2013

-HIV patient HLA gene genotyping project. Genotyped HLA genes of HIV patient blood samples using Sanger

Sequencing in GLP settings. Established and maintained HIV patient HLA genes genotype profile database.

Familiarized with Canada’s national infectious disease control process, operations of Public Health Agency of

Canada, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, and their structures and functions

Academia

Research Assistant – UBC Pharmaceutical Science Jan 2015 – Present

-Study the post-transcriptional regulation of nuclear receptors in response to drug treatment. (Assisting on

a PhD’s thesis project) Investigating changes in miRNA expression as well as downstream mRNA and protein

expression in response to drug treatment, using Luciferase reporter gene assay, RT-PCR and western blot.

Involved in experiments designing, writing detailed protocol, data processing and results interpretations.

Research Assistant – UBC Food, Nutrition and Health May 2014 – Apr 2015

-Stably transfected cell line generation. Generated a stably transfected cell line, optimized transfection and

experimental protocols. Verified transfection efficiency using confocal microscopy.

-Verify the effect of zinc depletion in the apoptosis and DNA damage of breast cancer cells. Studied the

change in expression levels of apoptotic genes of breast cancer cell line in response to zinc depletion using

Western Blot. Worked on various projects independently and troubleshot technical problems.
