PROFILE
Chemical engineer with more than 3 years of research experience in process
development. One year of experience working in a petroleum refinery. Highly experienced
in design and use of bench scale test equipment, extensive experimentation work and
process simulation and modeling. Looking for a challenging job opportunity in a
Chemical/Process company.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Sept. 2011-Aug. 2015 PhD in Chemical Engineering, University of Twente, The Netherlands
Thesis: Process development for direct liquefaction of biomass to produce bio -crude.
(Funded by Shell)
Proposed and experimentally demonstrated a two-step liquefaction process with
intermediate upgrading (patented).
Developed a new bio-oil fractionation technique (patent pending) and provided a proof
of concept and a techno-economic assessment of the whole liquefaction process with
bio-oil fractionation. Process simulation was done in Aspen HYSYS.
Developed two other process concepts of biomass liquefaction ( patent in preparation)
and provided a proof of concept and a techno-economic assessment. Process simulation
was done in Aspen HYSYS.
Sept. 2009-Aug. 2011 M.Sc. (Cum Laude) in Process Technology, University of Twente, The Netherlands
Grades: 8.6/10
Thesis: Supercritical water gasification of biomass.
Experimentally investigated chemistry of decomposition of alcohols and organic acids
(intermediates of biomass gasification process) and proposed reaction mechanism.
Successfully modeled and validated a reactor for supercritical water gasification of
methanol, using MATLAB.
July 2004-May 2008 B.Tech in Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, India
Grades: 8.1/10
Thesis: A planning model for the optimal production of a real world Soda ash plant.
Successfully modeled a plant for production of soda ash from sodium sulfate so lution
and further did a techno-economic assessment of the process considering Indian market
scenario.
WORK EXPERIENCE
May 2011-Aug. 2011 1. Internship, Shell Global Solutions-Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Developed a process concept for liquefaction of biomass, successfully modeled and
simulated it in Aspen PLUS and determined energy demands.
Pinpointed critical points and the scope of major improvements that helped in directing
further research.
June 2008 -June 2009 2. Technical management traineeship, Reliance Industries Ltd. –Jamnagar, India
Audited a part of Flare network of Jamnagar Export Oriented petroleum refinery.
Performed feasibility study to improve performance of Crude distillation unit heater by
evaluating different type of fins in convection section of the heater.
Checked adequacy of Post Treatment Unit fired heater under changed conditions.
Determined Max stretch capacity of Alkylation unit heat integration loop.
Process simulations required in all the above works were done in Aspen PLUS.
May 2007-July 2007 3. Internship, Alkyl Amines Chemicals Ltd. – Mumbai, India
Successfully designed a pump and a heat exchanger to suit increased plant throughput.
Investigated effect of the changed plant conditions on the main distillation column.
Dec. 2006-Jan. 2007 4. Internship, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. – Guwahati, India
Assessed performance of three boilers of the refinery and suggested areas of
improvements.
