lined up.
Im also in contact with Kellogg's and Red Bull about starting a new event
for our youth called (Shredded Mini Wheat Series) a toned down redbull cold
rush/ burton stash park toned down for 8-14 year olds i can fill you in
more on all of it at the bottom Ill include just the rough draft outline on
the program I hope to bring to the UOP next winter.
Im Currently working with Matt Twerllinger on a winter All Mt. free ride
team. I have a race background. and plenty of avi training. Although I have
plenty of experience in the park Id like to widen my knowledge of teaching
skills and anything else i can pick up see how my team will cover all areas
of skiing. skier cross, slope style, big Mt. racing, freestyle. So please
put me to work and fill my brain this summer. I promise i will be a great
addition to your team thanks Dave Rosen.
OUTLINE/NOTES/ROUGH DRAFT
* A new vision, a new quest; the ultimate skier experience.
All mountain free ride team.- built around camaraderie and
spreading the stoke of the sport, while being able to experience all
aspects of the sport creating the overall best skier as an athlete, a
thinker (decision maker) and capable, diverse, confident, comfortable
skier. We want to make great people first, great skiers will follow. We
work hard and play hard. We learn to over come fear. None of the
participation is mandatory, but an I can attitude can go along way. It
builds trust, creating bonds, making a team that is bigger than anyone on
it. It naturally create those in the group who are extremely proud to be
part of it. Encouragement and trust, not fear and pressure. Letting kids
learn, share experiences and develop skills that will not only help them as
a skier, but help them see what areas they want to excel in most down the
road. (I feel offering a team that a kid and family can stay in 7 years or
decide after a year or 2 the focus on one specific area of skiing is of
best interest).
Ages 8-14, composed of 2 groups. The older group 11-14, and younger
8-11. One group Saturday and one group Sunday, both coached by me. The
focus of training would change every few weeks with the opportunity to try
an event of the specified training such as skier cross training with the
option of a skier cross open invite comp to try in sun valley Idaho. (being
an all mountain free ski team) comps are not mandatory and a coach will
stay in town for those that do not wish or can not compete but
opportunities will be there.) I want to open the floor to the families and
have input on comps. I want to accommodate as much as possible. I have a
great relationship with a lot of the parents that would be putting trust in
my program succeeding. I want them to know I'm listening.) I'd like to be
a coach for the child athlete, but in a program revolving around the
family.
We would not strictly focus on the specified training but would always
continue working on a variety of things. These include hands, body, feet
and arm positioning, pole plants, edge set drills, completing nice carved
turns. using correct speeds while hitting jumps, and only getting air with
features offering safe landings. I encourage always being safe and that
it's okay to push your limits and take calculated risks from time to time
while in the right environments.
We are first and foremost about having fun. We are a family oriented team
and a powder day always trumps specific training. Winter camps will be
available for any vacation time off of school. we will focus on ski cross,
big Mt., slope style, racing, and free style.(nordic jumping and x-country
skiing will also take part in training.) We can spend more times on the
areas we decide to. We will also have introduction to backcountry and get a
chance to hike and discuss snow pack layers, different types of slides and
learn about digging pits and why they are important. We can do this
inbounds. We are full of great opportunities. Mornings can start at the
UOP we can stretch and then have the hill all to ourselves, skier cross, or
nordic jumps, or freestyle, slope style and gate training are all at our
finger tips. A good warm up and stretch and a few hours at the UOP we could
then go to either Canyons Mt. or Park City Mt. for the remainder of the day
and or meet back at UOP 8am-4pm .
