Role: Application Lead
Designed and developed IKEA North America’s Home Delivery System solution
that fulfilled thousands of orders on a monthly basis for both US and Canada.
This Model View Controller (MVC) based system was the first Java and
WebSphere based application designed and developed in North America. This
system was a pioneer project and helped IKEA NA gain valuable expertise in
J2EE, WebSphere, and Web based applications. This system interfaces with the
POS system to retrieve receipt information to allow automated article handling.
This system also employed the use of a new XML/XSL based ftp label printing
solution. VB6, Active Reports, and Com based communication mechanism were
also devised to assist in robust system reporting tools.
Designed the overall system architecture. Designed and constructed all common
components and much of the system’s functionality. This includes Java bean
design, internationalization support including display languages, currency, and
units of measure; support for multiple time zones, and MVC based framework.
Assisted in the Data Modeling, DBA responsibilities, as well as operational roles
for the system’s Oracle DBMS, WebSphere based deployment, and COM/VB6
based reporting solution. Designed and implemented the system’s release
methodology and server topology. Mentored developers in Java J2EE, Struts,
and XML, as well as Windows admins in application installation and deployment.
Participated on site in Germany for 1 year on enterprise scale migration project
from Visual Age 3.5 to WSAD/WAS 5.1 platform. The migration included 8 key
products to IKEA’s financial infrastructure including Corporate Base Data,
Accounting and Pre Accounting systems. These products also use IKEA Service
Oriented Architecture called New IT Foundation which include Rational Rose
modeling, auto code generation, deployment tools and integration to enterprise
infrastructure components for printing, and inter system communication.
Performed low level debugging of JDBC and Oracle 10 implementations of third
party object relational mapping tools including Hibernate. Discovered bugs in
Oracle 10.1.x JDBC driver which impacted product systems and led to changing
of JDBC drivers used on an Enterprise level. Assisted in migrating and
debugging dynamic class loader solution which allowed Accounting systems to
interface real time to two different versions of third party accounting system.
Role: Development Support/Configuration Manager
Implemented installation of Rational Clear Case UCM and migrated IKEA North
America’s existing version control system. IKEA implements Rational Clear Case
as a global version control system. This includes multi-siting among 5 global IT

scripts and triggers, upgrades, and general administration. Researched
hardware requirements and coordinated local installation. Received training and
managed migration effort from CVS to Clear Case. Devise stream strategy and
component design to support multiple releases, parallel development, and patch
handling.

content based demographics, heuristic rule generation, and viewership history to
perform optimization algorithms for matching ads with viewers. This system
interface with cable head end systems, MPEG video content systems, and
MPEG video streams.
Developed a cable headend simulator system. This system was an event based
system which employs socket based communication and SOAP services to
delivery video content information to cable set top boxes and receive
anonymously recorded viewership information.
