Direct Pricing Engine (DPE) is the core system that feeds and provides
pricing, shipping, tax, coupon, incentive and promotion information for all
the JCPenney merchandise to jcpenney.com and other interfacing enterprise
systems (store order entry application, sales order fulfilment, business
intelligence reporting). DPE is a high volume (more than 500K incoming
pricing calls per LPAR server from jcpenney.com during peak period), high
availability, low latency system that calculates the total order value
(pricing, shipping and tax) applying coupon information to all .com orders.
JCPenney marketing and pricing business users enter pricing and coupon
related information for all the merchandise (massive amount of individual
Lot and SKU pricing) in this system. The system is a Java/J2EE based
application using Spring and Hibernate framework connecting to Oracle 11g
database, interfaces with more than 20 applications using TIBCO
topic/queues and WebSphere MQ. Infomatica ETL is the standard for all data
refresh and synchronization across different environments.

application implemented in C# .NET connecting through Informix 4gl
libraries to Informix database. The design was done using UML in Enterprise
Architect. The application also interacted with MapQuest through HTTP
requests for GEO coding of properties. Property information such as hotel
