. Project Lead: Complete 2 million dollar project to upgrade NetBackup
6.5.5 to version 7 to expand backup services to entire critical
infrastructure (400 physical servers, 100+ VMs, 3 Data Centres, 3 SANs).
Responsibilities include designing a backup solution that met PCI
standards for the Star's server infrastructure. Tasks include building
both physical (Windows 2008 R2 on Dell R710) and virtual servers (using
VMWare Virtual Centre 4.0 with ESX 3.5) while documenting builds. Tasks
also include rack and stack of servers, SAN / LAN cabling, SAN
management, OS installation, building of clusters, tuning, and security
hardening of all servers. Other tasks include report creating using
Symantec OpsCentre and customizing scripts to generate work tickets
automatically for failed backup jobs.
. Work daily managing Enterprise-grade SAN storage hardware including EMC
Clariion AX4-5, CX-4 (120, 240, 480, 960) and VNX 5300 Storage Arrays
using Navisphere and Unisphere, StorageTek L180, Dell/Quantum LTO-2, 3, 5
tape libraries, and EMC's Virtual Tape Library (VTL). Also manage various
Brocade fibre switches including Brocade 48000 Silkworm Director. Duties
included HBA install into servers, EMC software install, connect fibre to
fabric, zone servers and arrays together, create RAID groups, and assign
LUNs. Additionally monitor the health and performance of the arrays.
Would also plan how to best use storage in terms of both space and
performance. Additional duties also include management of EMC Celerra NAS
and RecoverPoint SAN replication.
. Using vbscript create scripts to: 1) automate the collection of backup
data in adherence to C198 narratives (reduce task time from 4 hours to15
minutes), 2) monitor and automatically correct issues with StorageTek
robots, 3) monitor Windows DFSR links between servers (a highly critical
task in determining the health of DFSR links, a task which previous tools
failed to accomplish or did so inaccurately), 4) automatically generate
work orders for failed backup jobs.
. Collect and analyse backup statistics using Symantec OpsCenter, compute
trends to determine present and future resource needs. Prepare tapes for
offsite storage and recovery to and from offsite facility.
