Application Packager/App-V Sequencer

I am currently working for State Farm as an application packager/sequencer.

This role requires creating packages to industry best practices as part of

a Windows 7 migration project. The packages are created using Install

shield and sequenced using App-V for deployment to Windows 7 and Windows 7

x64 PC's using SCCM. The role also includes creating Package for XP and all

Microsoft servers (2003, 2008 and 2012), documentation and performing QA's

of colleagues work.

Contributions:

- Evaluating the requests and confirm that sufficient install

instruction and test cases are provided by client

- Repackaging the Applications using Admin studio installshield.

- Generating VBscript's for the application which needs

customization

- Verify provided Test cases on source and Packages

- Connecting to the remote machines using the Remote Desktop Connection

(RDP) and Net meeting to understand and resolve the issues faced by the

clients

- Do the last check for all deliverables

- Assuring that the ETA is met for packages.

Application Virtualization Engineer

Packages are created and tested using VM Ware The role is responsible

for creating

Installation documentation. This role is a very challenging role with

very strict deadlines requiring a high Throughput of packages packaged

to a very high standard which requires an in-depth knowledge of

MSI Technologies, scripting (VB) and SCCM

This role ensures that all requirements are fulfilled for converting an

application to a Virtual Package.

- Worked with Microsoft App-V for converting an EXE or One Desk

source to a Virtual Application.

- Analysis of the given setup.exe is carried out, using

provided specifications. It includes checking for application

dependencies, application installation and uninstallation. It

also includes analysis of application behavior, which in turn

consists of checking for DSNs, drivers, services, shortcuts

and such other aspects depending on the type of application.

- Troubleshooting of Virtual Applications, on publishing the

package to Win7 and Citrix depending upon the application

requests.

- Handling Compliance Testing for the application before

delivering the application to Production.

- Working on Complex Application such as Server applications,

Scripting related apps.

- Those applications which cannot be virtualized are packaged

using Wise package studio for Win7.

Application Packaging Engineer

The project involves repackaging of software's for the various customers

around the globe. according to their requirement customizing the

application in the Windows XP, Windows 2008 and Windows 2003 server

build. The packaged applications are tested by user; Customer specified

quality guidelines and deployment. The documentation part involves the

technical review, QA check sheet and Testing details.

Contributions:

I was one of 4 packagers looking after the packaging for clients in the

Asia pacific region. My role was to package applications into the MSI

format using Macrovision Admin-studio and make them available to users for

automatic installation using SMS and SCCM to servers and XP workstation. I

also managed software updates, patches, process improvement and fault

resolution for existing packages.

- This role covers software discovery, packaging for different

server builds and XP.

- Performed new installs and fault diagnosis/resolution. Worked

on many projects and weekend rollouts.

- Packaged software's to best practices and company standards

for deployment via SMS2007.

- Test functionality of the MSI packages for all Operation

Systems.

- Working to company specified SLA's using a combination of

Adminstudio, Orca and in-house written VB tools to create and

modify the MSI/MST, validate and conflict solve.
