Satyam Computer Services Ltd. - Hyderabad Jul
2006 - Nov 2007
Job title: Sr Engineer - Network
Project: Operation Management Architecture (OMA)
Client: Reuters, London
Duration: JUL 2006 - Nov 2007
Travelled onsite (London) for Knowledge Transfer for 3 months.
Environments: ALPHA 4100, VAX system, Star Coupler SC008, Storage works
SW800, HSJ50 Controller, Cisco Switches & Terminal Servers.
Team Of: One
OMA consists of a number of discrete systems and infrastructure components
that provide an overall management environment that was specifically
designed to manage VMS based systems. It consists of 4 main components: a
network (OSN), a central resource system (OMN), an event monitoring and
management system (OCM) and a graphical display for all the events
generated by OCM (OMS).
OMN designed as a central management system for managing VMS based systems
but is available to other operating systems. It offers file and data
storage
to a central storage system, job scheduling, event propagation, secure
access to production systems. The prerequisite is that the managed system
has either TCP/IP or DECnet as a means of communication. OCM provides a
means of capturing serial data feeds from managed systems and converting
the text messages into events and forwarding them to a graphical display
such as formula where they appears as a colour change within the display.
My Role in the Project:
Providing Level 3 support for the application and responsible for the
followings:
. Managing OMA Environment used by the Production & development projects.
. Schedule Job Management; ensure proper functioning of CA Job Scheduler,
Console Manager and HP's SLS (Storage Library System).
. Addition / modification / deletion of any managed system.
. Managing / adding / removing events on Console Manager, event filtering,
event pre-processing and ensuring correct display on Formula.
. Responsible for system management tasks like user management, Disk Space
Utilization, File-system Management, Queue Management, Performance
Management, to tune the system to take care of load whenever it reaches
its peak.
. Installation and configuration of Operating System, patches and layered
product.
. Assisting of user in taking backup, and any type of operation and
technical problem.

In CMC I was maintaining the Very critical site of Railways Reservation
System, PRS - Delhi. CONCERT is an ON-LINE Passenger Reservation System for
Indian Railways based on Compaq ALPHA severs (ES45, ES40 and DS20e). Indian
Railway Reservation system is divided into five PRS center. Each PRS center
has four or five Alpha Server. For each PRS center, Alpha servers form
cluster on MEMORY CHANNEL through Memory Channel hub. Storage was RA8000
Array having HSZ80 SCSI Controller. All Alpha servers on each site are
connected with storage array through 5 ports SCSI hub. Cisco switches and
after that, HUB connectivity is being used for connecting terminal server
to system. PRS Delhi is also pilot site for any Upgradation, enhancement
and implementation of any new aspect in the present setup of reservation
system, which is then replicated to other PRS sites in India. These
Machines run India's largest online Application. Average load is 2000
simultaneous users.
My Role in the Project:
Worked with the team to provide 99% up time of the system and responsible
for the followings:
Upgrading the Cluster to implement the currents versions.
. Installing/Customizing various Layered products and patches as per OS
requirement.
. System management tasks like queues management, User Authorization, Disk
Space Utilization, Performance Management, sysgen, autogen, and sysman to
tune the System to take care of load whenever it reaches its peak.
. Implementation/Management of Shadowing across the cluster for critical
data packs.
. Backup of the systems (Image & Incremental) and restoration.
. Tuning of cluster to withstand the increase in load and the server for
optimum utilization of resources.
. Creation and managing User Accounts.

Indian Railways has set up a dedicated m/c at all its PRS Centers for
centralized updating of arrival / departure status of the trains. The
existing network for PRS is being utilized for the users at front end to
connect to the systems. ALPHA DS20e along with RA3000 storage works
connected on a SCSI bus in a Cluster is being used at the back end. Cisco
switch used for connecting terminal server to system. It gives latest
status about arrival and departure of trains through telephone.
