Dear Pam,
Your commitment to our practice was your commitment to excellence in everything you do. That is not
the sort of thing I can teach. Someone brings that pride in all they do with them, and that commitment to
excellence is your signature. But you brought even more.
Thus, it is important to me that you find a position commensurate with not just your formidable abilities
and intelligence, but also your sensibilities, that keen awareness of every situation that you also bring
with you. I would love to see you work in the Pulmonary Division at UNC in a position of responsibility,
as you would only enhance that position, and the Pulmonary Division is comprised of some of the finest
people I know, people who taught me the art that your excellence allowed me to practice. You witnessed
the result.
In truth, you would be an excellent administrator for a chairperson of a division or department. I don’t
mean for you to become a bureaucrat, but rather someone who keenly understands what it takes to deliver
quality healthcare in a setting where you positively shined. Should such a chance present itself I would
support you without qualification, just as I would in a small practice such as mine.
In short, I hope you find a position in keeping with the excellence, dignity, and decency that is you. You
deserve all that and more.
Sincerely,
Dave Davin
