Face recognition is mainly used for authentication purpose

Description

and face is a biometric physical feature used to identify people. Major and

main components present in face image space are eyes, nose and mouth.

Pose, expression and illumination within face images of the same person is

the major problem in face recognition.. Then the main limitation of BPNN is

slow training speed.

In this paper, a robust face recognition system capable of

suppressing the effect of illumination and expression and overcome the

limitation of BPNN. Haar wavelet transform is used to decompose input

image into sub image bands. Principal component analysis (PCA) is used to

extract eigen face feature from sub image bands and mainly used for

dimensionality reduction.

This feature is trained and tested by classification algorithm

based on Original probabilistic neural network (OPPN) and modified

probabilistic neural network (MPNN) before validation and after validation.

The performance of this system is tested using 120 frontal face samples with

illumination, expression and pose variation. The experimental results

obtained are very encouraging in terms of recognition rate and reduced error

rate.
