Maintenance Manager

Sears Holdings Corporation (Distribution Center) - Greensboro, NC (03/07–Present)

Maintenance Manager responsible for all phases of maintenance including a 1.6M sq. ft. facility,

nine miles of conveyor and other systems, $0.5M spare parts inventory, a fleet of over 200

motorized material handling equipment and company vehicles (fleet management), and 160 acres

of grounds maintenance. Manage staff of 40+. Report to the location’s highest officer, the General

Manager. Member of the Senior Leadership Team.

• Reorganized the department and developed associates to build a highly skilled and

experienced maintenance team, including supervisors, in a union environment

• Reduced conveyor deficiencies, audited by an outside firm, by 96% (accomplished by

implementing procedures and process improvements year after year)

• Achieved a conveyor uptime metric (KPI) of 99.8% on a goal of 99.5%

• Implemented diligent control measures on a $0.5M inventory resulting in a six year

average inventory variance of 1.19% on a goal of 3% (January 2015 YE was 0.86%)

• Produced a monthly forecast with an annual budget of $2.5M; Analyzed the P&L and

submitted the capital and expense request for the building

• Received the DVP Spirit of Excellence award for my contributions to the startup of a new

Greensboro Online Fulfillment Center

Technical Operations Supervisor / Corporate Safety Officer

The Encore Group (Manufacturing & Distribution) - Winston-Salem, NC (10/93–03/07)

Manager responsible for all phases of maintenance including facility, systems, grounds, and

manufacturing equipment. Managed all aspects of safety (EH&S) and security. Routinely

performed project and process engineering, research and development, quality control, and

purchasing tasks. Managed staff and subcontractors. Reported directly to the Executive VP/CFO.

• Traveled to the Thailand plant to develop processes, procedures, and manage repairs for

the coating line resulting in an increased average yield from 40% to 90%

• Engineered, proposed, and installed new production equipment in Thailand

• Provided liaison and technical support for national and international operations

• Developed new procedures for the Pad Printing Department resulting in a 50% increase in

production without sacrificing quality or increasing labor costs; Received the Achievement

Award for this accomplishment

• Redesigned the Coating Department’s equipment resulting in a significant decrease in

downtime and an increase in product yield; Received the Circle of Excellence Award for

this accomplishment

• Developed and implemented a proactive (versus reactive) preventative maintenance

program resulting in less down time and consistently high quality products

• Standardized equipment parts in order to decrease the various types of stocked spare

parts improving stock room efficiency and decreasing inventory cost

CAD Designer – Electrical Engineering Department

Asheville Industries, a subsidiary of Newport News Shipbuilding – Asheville, NC (3/88–10/93)

Designed electrical and mechanical drawings utilizing Computer Aided Drafting (CAD). Estimated

job/change order cost. Created and maintained a job tracking database for the entire Electrical

Department. Developed a Standard Drafting Practices Manual for quality control for the

department.
