EXPERIENCE
University of New Hampshire Earth Ocean Space Center (UNH EOS), Durham, NH, May’12- October’13
Assistant Project Engineer
• UNH EOS is a non-profit research lab and facility, with the Space Center contracting work with national and foreign institutes
to create satellite payloads
• Member of the team designing the Heavy Ion Sensor for the Solar Orbiter Mission during critical development stage.
• Developed a professional understanding of appropriate machining and CAD techniques
• Designed custom specifications as needed using SolidWorks for the sensor to accommodate prototype testing and transport
• Operated SolidWorks as necessary: checking build requirement, creating custom accommodations for the sensor itself, testing
new design ideas within the assembly.
Convertible Day2Night Heels, Boston, MA, June ’11-August ’11
Design Engineering Intern
• Day2Night Heels is a member of a state-sponsored innovation incubator group based in Massachusetts.
• Part of the engineering group given full responsibility of designing the product.
• Developed 3D blueprints using SolidWorks software to analyze potential designs.
• Arranged company calls and e-mails to machine shops and rapid prototyping companies to discuss implementation.
• Learned manufacturing and industry insight with peer engineers from other companies and SolidWorks presentations from
sponsor software distributor SolidVision.
The New Hampshire newspaper, Durham, NH, August ’13- May’14
Weekly Opinion Columnist, “Penned With Zen”
• The New Hampshire is UNH’s only student-run newspaper, with biweekly print releases throughout coastal New Hampshire.
• Produced a weekly opinion column; general theme of how to have a successful school year, exploring alternative viewpoints on
general discussions.
• Collaborated regularly with editors to generate appropriate article ideas for publication.

To Lighthouse Placement Services,
I am writing to express my interest to obtain a position working as a drafter. With my comprehensive experience, I feel I
would both function well and learn plenty from working in the field. Having finished studying at the University of New
Hampshire, I am currently working on obtaining my Certified SolidWorks Professional Degree (CSWP) while looking to
find work in New England as a mechanical designer. Having worked with small teams that thrived on quality ability and
an enthusiasm for their work, I hope to find a similar work environment working was a drafter
As you can see on my resume, I have worked with two companies in the past two and a half years. In 2011, it was with the
state-sponsored innovation incubator MassChallenge in Boston, where I was a design engineer for Day2Nite Convertible
High Heels. My primary duties involved using the Computer Aided Design (CAD) software SolidWorks to analyze and
update the most recent designs for an adjustable high heel shoe that was getting ready for market production and release. I
worked independently from home and commuted down once a week to meet with my coworkers. In Boston, I would
check on developing shoe prototypes and communicate tasks and current developments with the rest of the engineering
team. Along with CAD duties, my work consisted of coordinating developing shoe prototypes and material quotes
between our vendors and company CEO to guarantee a timely and quality final product. The final model my coworkers
and I came up with is still the flagship product of the company.
While studying at the University of New Hampshire, I obtained an internship as an assistant project engineer with the
Earth Ocean Space Scientific Research Center (UNH-EOS). This was a fantastic opportunity to work as a design engineer,
as I was a part of the group working on the Heavy Ion Sensor for the Solar Orbiter mission. My work duties there
included using SolidWorks to check design blueprints, create part lists and geometric dimensions sheets, draft routing
assemblies and creating new assemblies and products to assist any manufacturing needs. For the new assemblies and
products I would work with the machinists to drill and cut as necessary. This experience was greatly improved working
with John Nolin- also a CSWP and founder of the New Hampshire SolidWorks Users Group-, who showed me tips to save
time and improved drawing accuracy. Working with John at UNH-EOS has inspired me to work as a design specialist and
obtain my CSWP- something that I would think would complement working in the drafting field.
I can be contacted during the week at 603-***-****, or by my e-mail, at ********.*****.******@*****.***. I appreciate
your consideration, and look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Benjamin Kramer
