Supervise a traffic fatality unit of ten detectives who investigate and follow-up regarding all traffic
fatalities, non-traffic fatalities resulting from other transportation accidents, and hit and run accidents
Serve as the expert reconstructionist at the scene of motor vehicle accidents and recreate accidents by
utilizing math and physics to determine the speed and momentum of each vehicle
Establish a visual reenactment and animation of accidents using CAD software to more effectively
prosecute cases, uncover the facts, as well as to illustrate events to juries and superiors
Mentor and train detectives regarding special unit operations and procedures, best practices of
navigating and policing traffic fatalities, and software applications
Maintain databases of 60,000 records for hit and run accidents as well as 6,000 records for hit and run
fatalities, update and clean data to ensure integrity and accuracy of reporting and analysis
Operate as the subject matter expert for both the unit and the department for implementation and use of
CAD software and its application to daily policing activities
Manage a $30,000 budget and secure increased funding annually to drive the acquisition of new
technology, equipment, and training to enhance the expertise of the traffic fatality special unit
Alter and update standard operating procedures to reflect current and changing practices
Compile monthly reports analyzing accidents and fatalities in the county as well as a bimonthly traffic
analysis report which analyzes all accidents and high-incident locations in each precinct
