Test team manager, tester, project manager, and vendor manager. Coordinated the test planning and test execution
of dozens of projects in ViaSat test environments every year. In the ISP services role selected the companies,
worked on the contract, project managed, and tested customer facing email and account management services.
•Grew the QA team from 3 to 13 employees, with a mix of junior and senior testers, manual and automated
testing. Added contract employees when necessary.
•Managed off shore resources in India. Trained them on test tools, reviewed test plan and test cases, and
managed their test efforts to completion for a SOAP API and UI testing project in 2013.
•Lead the QA team through testing of applications and software infrastructure in a SOA environment,
including projects critical to ViaSat such as the replacement of the back office billing and order
management system with a PCI compliant system in 2010.
•Coordinated multiple projects being tested simultaneously, avoiding conflicts and managing last minute
changes, and worked with network engineers, system administrators, DBA’s, project managers, and
developers to resolve issues that blocked testing.
•Provided test effort estimations, scheduling, risks, and test progress reporting to project managers,
product owners such as Care and Marketing, and VP level management for multi-week and year-long
projects.
•Reviewed each team member’s performance and provided compensation recommendations.
•Transitioned the team from test tracking using Excel spreadsheets to test tracking software and use of test
automation software such as SilkPerformer, SoapUI Pro, and Microsoft Team Foundation Server using C#.
Added requirements to test case traceability to track test case coverage.
•Documented, and modified software test and vendor management processes as part of the IT team’s goal
of achieving CMMI level 3 certification.
•Managed, and tested, WildBlue customer and care facing email services and integration with internal
systems meeting the WildBlue launch date of July 2004.

•Managed the transition, including testing, of 170,000+ customer email addresses to Google Apps and a
hosted account management system meeting the COO’s target date of February 2008. This turned ISP
services into a profit center earning millions of dollars a year for WildBlue. Currently there are 100,000’s of
accounts managed by the system.
•Managed, including testing, the move of the account management system to Amazon Web Services in
September 2013 which upgraded the software, reduced annual licensing costs by $100,000, improved
performance for ViaSat’s growing customer base, and added another domain.

Consultant, Provisioning
Created a plan and set of procedures to evaluate DOCSIS provisioning systems for Comcast. Evaluated several
systems and recommended a vendor that was subsequently deployed nationwide.
AT&T BROADBAND – Broadband Labs, Westminster, CO 11/2000 – 5/2003
Software Analyst, Strategist, and Architect, Broadband Provisioning
Project manager, tester, and software architect, responsible for strategic analysis of internal projects and software
suppliers. Wrote requirements, and created and executed acceptance tests, for DOCSIS provisioning systems.
Also wrote scripts in Perl and Shell to support provisioning software.
•Produced and executed acceptance tests of the Service Activation System. This system provisioned high-
speed data (broadband) service for cable modem users.
•Managed the acceptance testing of a provisioning system for the Motorola DCT5000 set-top box. Contract
signed with provisioning vendor required payment contingent on a successful acceptance test. Led a team
spread across two labs to successfully test the delivered system.
QWEST/U S WEST – Advanced Technologies, Boulder, CO 1994 – 2000

Led the development of new voice services given general requirements from product management. Project
managed, wrote the detailed requirements, and developed the services. Used service creation environments, Perl,
UNIX SHELL, SQL, and Java.
•Wrote the requirements, designed, and implemented several AIN services, and AIN feature manager, on
the Telcordia ISCP platform, including Call Forwarding by Calling Number, Calling Party Pays 2, I-Called,
and Continuous Redial Deluxe.
•Created an HTML front end to a command line based change request system allowing testers to submit
change requests for AIN services. Developed scripts in PERL and SHELL to collect and report data from
the ISCP for use by product management.
•Modified HLR code and database to support Qwest Wireless features on Lucent and Nortel Mobile
Switching Centers, allowing Qwest Wireless to deploy a multi-vendor network at a reduced cost.
•Created Java code to interact with the Telcordia ISCP via the GDI protocol for WSLR simulator. This
proved the feasibility, at the SCP/HLR level, that wireless service could be offered using wireline switches
over a GR-303 interface.
• Two patents:
•Method and system for automatically updating a serving MSC with a change in a subscriber profile
•Method and system for a wireless subscriber to initiate a calling number trace
AT&T BELL LABS, NJ 1984 - 1994
Ten year career with Bell Labs spanned various roles for the business units of AT&T. Transitioned from
requirements definition into project management and then on to software development using C, C++, and UNIX
Shell languages in UNIX programming environments.
