SKILLS:
At internships as a Family Nurse Practitioner student: Obtaining
history of present illness and past medical history, performing head
to toe physicals or focused assessments, ordering labs and diagnostic
tests, reviewing lab results and results of diagnostic tests,
suggesting diagnoses and medications to be ordered to supervising
preceptor; recommending appropriate plans, follow up measures, and
appointments, or referrals to other health care Providers as needed,
education on disease prevention and health promotion.
Current: Assessment of lung sounds, heart rates, and edema,
venipuncture of dialysis grafts and fistulas, central line catheter
care, blood transfusions, specimen collection, medication
administration, oxygen therapy, admissions, transfers, monitoring
patients' vital signs and various other dialysis parameters while in
the unit. Responsibilities also include use of the primary care
nursing model in the management of care of a specific group of
patients such as performing medication reconciliation monthly or as
needed, monthly foot checks of the diabetic patients, patient
education, acute call rotations for hospitalized patients, and
attending multidisciplinary team meetings. Over the years, used
several computer programs and EMR systems, the latest being Clarity,
Epic and E-cubes.
