Education:
California State University Fresno: Masters in Science in Nursing
California State University Bakersfield: Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Bakersfield College: Associate in Science, Registered Nursing
Bishop O'Dowd High School, San Leandro, CA
Employment:
July 2014 to present: Salinas Valley State Prison
I have been working per diem in the TTA (Triage and Treatment Area) at the
prison in
Soledad, CA. This is the prison equivalent of the ER, so I have quite a
varied caseload. I
care for patients with acute and chronic illnesses as well as seeing quite
a bit of trauma.
January 2014 to present: Apogee Physicians
This is a hospitalist position at Watsonville Community Hospital in Santa
Cruz County. My role is to work with Emergency Department physicians,
admitting patients who require acute care hospitalization. I gather
comprehensive historical information on each patient, review diagnostic and
laboratory reports, perform a complete physical exam, and admit them to the
appropriate floor (telemetry, med-surg, ICU). I then arrange for necessary
consultations and diagnostic studies as well as initiating all necessary
pharmacy orders. I work closely with the ER physicians as well as my
supervising physician. This is an interesting and challenging position for
me as I am the only hospitalist in the house between 7pm and 7 am!
Fortunately, I have forged excellent working relationships with ER and
nursing staff and have plenty of support.
2012 to 2014: California Hospitalist Medical Group
In my role as a Hospitalist with California Hospitalist Medical Group, I
admitted patients to the acute care hospital setting when appropriate,
rounded on my patients daily, ordered necessary studies and interpreted
results. An important part of my job involved arranging consultations with
specialists such as general and orthopedic surgery, neurology and
cardiology. I also worked very closely with case management to ensure
efficient and cost effective patient care was provided within an optimal
length of stay.
2005-2012: San Joaquin Community Hospital
2615 Chester
Bakersfield, CA 93301
I started working at SJCH as an extern while attending the associate degree
nursing program at Bakersfield College. I stayed on as a medical-surgical
nurse as I continued my nursing education, obtaining my bachelors and more
recently my master's degree. We had been taught in nursing school that
working a few years as a staff nurse in med-surg was a necessary part of
our education. This may have been the best advice I have ever received and
I am so glad I took it!
I take great pride in my ability to communicate effectively with my
patients as well as consulting specialists. As a health care provider in
my current roles, it is imperative that I have an excellent relationship
and very clear lines of communication with other members of the health care
teams. I firmly believe that my greatest strength is my ability to
communicate. I pride myself on my ability to be on good terms with all
those with whom I work. In my current roles that includes physicians,
administrators, nursing and ancillary staff. And last but not least I excel
at communicating with my patients who are quite a diverse lot between the
hospital and the prison!
