Advanced Micro Devices Austin, TX
2006 - 2009 Technical Program Manager
Managed all aspects of the platform development effort with customers in
the US, Taiwan and China. Worked directly with OEM and ODM design teams to
design and develop notebook platforms. Responsible for the development of
collateral and training the customer and far east technical leads on new
technologies required for notebook platform development.
. Customer Service & Support: Analyzed customer platforms with schematic
reviews, layout reviews, and extensive platform testing and validation.
Results: Accelerated project completion (Time to Money) and reduced
defects at launch.
Intel Corporation Hillsboro, OR (1996 - 2006)
2005 - 2006 Quality and Reliability Engineering Manager
Responsible for the quality and reliability design aspect of the wireless
(Centrino Brand) products, as well as all the testing required to evaluate
and qualify wireless products for high volume (millions per month)
manufacturing. My team also supported continuous improvement programs
(resulting in a sub 500DPM product) at our contract manufactures in China
and Malaysia. Also worked directly with customers to resolve issues as
well as educate them on the use of new manufacturing technologies.
. Risk Management: Coached engineers on their role as part of the product
development team. Results: Quality engineers were no longer viewed as
gatekeepers, but as valued team members that provided data and helped
to assess risk.
2003 - 2005 Applications Engineering Manager
Enabled notebook technologies that are targeted for sale through the Intel
channel. Worked directly with the ODM design teams (Taiwan, China) in an
effort to promote new technologies and ensure that the designs are of good
quality. Coordinated the ODM system evaluations within Intel labs for
various aspects of system performance (including power consumption,
thermals, high-speed bus performance, wireless through put, and overall
system performance).
. Gathered data from internal testing and customer feedback. Applied
statistical methods to produce reports needed for communications and
problem solving within the management team. Results: There was an
approximate two week delay in the launch of the product, but more
importantly, the product met or exceeded all stated specifications and
quality goals. Product volume ramped in a short time and the product
exceeded financial expectations.
1996 - 2003 Quality Engineer - Quality Engineering Manager
Quality Engineer for the Mobile Modules Operation (Manufactured notebook
processor modules that included on board voltage regulation, processor,
memory controller and memory). Responsible for the product qualification
of the 500 DPM processor modules that were being produced by the Intel
boards and system manufacturing organization.
. Design Engineering: Technical skills include electronic engineering as
well as the American Society of Quality (ASQ) body of knowledge.
Results: Initial product improvement as well as the ability to work
through issues that may arise during volume ramp and production.
. Information Interpretation: Trained engineering teams on the use of
statistical tolerances. Results: Improved design practices that
allowed more margins for suppliers. This ultimately reduces the cost
of manufacturing and product inspection.
