medical instrumentation, scientific digital imaging and telecommunications. Primary activities entailed

directing initiatives for R&D Group, P&L management, and obtaining external R&D funding for

development of OEM digital imaging and wireless laser communications products for life sciences and

telecommunications markets. Collaborated with Assembly, Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing and Legal

Departments leaders during product development cycles. Generated quarterly business plans and

monthly financial updates for President and COO. Managed a technical staff of twelve Programmers and

Engineers. Controlled a $2 million annual R&D budget.

DIRECTOR of ENGINEERING (1999 to 2000)

Joined firm to direct diversification efforts of core technology into new business areas such as digital

imaging and wireless telecommunications. Trained Optical Manufacturing Department in new, cutting-

edge optical manufacturing and metrology technologies. Partnered with core engineering staff on design

of new consumer products to further penetrate the amateur astronomy market. Directed five

Programmers and Engineers; oversaw $1 million annual R&D budget.

University of California, Irvine, CA 1988 to 1999

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR of PHYSICS (1993 to 1999), tenured

Directed a newly formed Infrared Imaging Laboratory and secured $2 million in grant funding. Managed

three technical staff members as well as undergraduate/graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.

• Received funding from NSF and NASA to design and develop innovative long-wave infrared

(LWIR), cryogenically-cooled, imaging Fabry-Perot scanning interferometer for thermal ground-

based and airborne hyper-spectral imaging applications. Project delivered on time and within

budget.

• Served on several NASA and NSF technical review panels that recommended future technical

and funding priorities for development of next-generation optical/infrared astronomical

instrumentation.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR of PHYSICS (1988 to1993), tenure-track

Key activities included teaching, research, managing undergraduate and graduate students, grant writing,

researching development of novel infrared astronomical instrumentation, and fostering relationships with

aerospace companies to land funding and research opportunities to create large-format, infrared focal-

plane array sensors for astronomical observations. Landed $500,000+ in annual funds to support small

research group.

• Received funds from NSF, NASA, and Rockwell Foundation to research, develop and optimize

state-of-the-art, large-format, mid-wave/long-wave infrared (MWIR/LWIR) focal-plane array

sensors and cryogenically-cooled thermal imaging and grating spectrometer systems.
