I am writing to express my interest in working as an Engineer for your company. I have previous
experience in working as a mechanical engineering intern at Columbia Forest Products
(Summers 2012/2013) and Player Design Inc. (Summer 2014). I have also worked in Aroostook
County as a mechanic for my father at his mechanic shop, so I have developed many real world
problem solving techniques. The rigorous Mechanical Engineering program at the University of
Maine Orono has prepared me for the workforce.
I have graduated from the University of Maine this past month and received a Mechanical
Engineering degree. Many courses have prepared me for the engineering workforce. I have
completed MEE 230 (Thermo I), MEE 231 (Thermo II), MEE 360 (Fluid Mechanics), MEE 432
(Heat Transfer), and MEE 370 (Modeling & Control of Engineering Systems), MEE 471
(Vibrations), MEE 455 (Advanced Strength of Materials, and MEE 486 (Air Conditioning and
Refrigeration System Design). I also have experience in AutoCAD, MVPplant, Solidworks,
Inventor Professional 2014, Mathcad, Matlab, Data acquisition and LabVIEW.
My previous internship at Columbia Forest Products involved working with a mechanical
engineer and solving problems that happened in the work field. Over the two summers that I
worked at CFP, the company upgraded the 8’ line so I was introduced to the new technology
installed and how it was designed. Over my second summer working for CFP, I created PM’s for
all equipment on both the 8’ and 10’ lines. This required taking pictures of each piece of
equipment and labeling all the parts for properly maintaining the machine daily, monthly, and
yearly. During the two week shutdown period I was a crew leader for two different divisions that
required me to be very organized. I am very hands on and learn quickly and diligently.
Aside from my internships, I have worked the Maine potato harvest during two fall season, I
worked in a leadership capacity in the Mapleton Recreation program, and I continue to work as a
mechanic as often as I can. I have also built a house with my father and installed the plumbing
and radiant heating. I have enclosed a resume and with my previous work experience and
education. I believe I am a highly qualified applicant for an engineering position.
Thank you for your consideration.

Ryan Bernier Letter of Recommendation
Ryan worked at the Columbia Forest Products Presque Isle location for the past two summers in an engineering
i ntern role. During this period of employment Ryan proved to be a reliable employee who could be depended on to
get the job done. He was punctual and responsible.
Over this period of time Ryan worked on several assignments which included training and use of AutoCAD for
design purposes. He helped develop preventive maintenance checks for several pieces of equipment, and created a
new parts room to better organize the spare parts. He also supervised a maintenance crew during the mill
shutdown weeks.
