concept/feasibility phase into active R&D engineering activities following
strict FDA documentation protocols as the product enters into traditional
engineering phases. I was actively involved in authoring Product
Requirements documents working closely with Marketing on User Requirements
as well as Test Procedures with the TMV group to validate the Test Methods
and apply them to product documentation in addition to executing
Validations for a particular product line I managed.

EyeNetra is an MIT media lab start up developing a technology that will
revolutionize eye care with a focus on third world countries.
I was hired at EyeNetra at a stage where they had some rough prototypes and
they were actively working with the New England School of Optometry
gathering data for their technology. Immediately upon joining EyeNetra we
explored, built and tested several configurations of the device and
selecting a concept to develop and further test. My job was to manage
prototype builds and a cast urethane build to meet a defined schedule
agreed upon with the management team and CTO. Under my direction was one
engineer and several co-ops.
Responsibilities included:
. Industrial Design and Engineering concepts with concurrent prototypes
builds on a weekly basis
. Execute user research at the New England School of Optometry Co-
develop UI for the phone app that is the heart of the core technology
iRobot Corporation, Burlington, MA
07.05 - 07.12 Senior Industrial Designer
At iRobot, I was responsible for the Industrial Design and User
experience for all Home Robot Products and instrumental in starting the
Design and User Research Lab. Product platforms included; Dry Floor Care
(Roomba), Wet Floor Care (Scooba), Outdoor (Looj) and Medical (RP AVA).
Most design programs were supported externally with outside design
consulting help and internally with my core development team. My role was
liaison between outside design partners who helped develop the Corporate
Brand using user-centered design principles and internal development staff
during the lifecycle of the individual robot design.
Roomba 500 Series - I was the lead Design Engineer for the Roomba 500
series which included the Virtual Walls, Lighthouses, dock and brick. The
Lighthouse idea was a concept that I designed, prototyped, built and got
ready for production. It is an accessory device used to allow the robot to
clean room to room efficiently and return to its charging dock.
Roomba 700 Series - I was the lead Industrial Design and Usability Designer
on this accelerated program with the major goals of the program being a
complete new Industrial Design appearance, improved UI design and "higher
quality" finishes.
Scooba redesign - I was the lead Industrial Designer and User Experience
Designer on this program. The second major objective was to improve the
usability of its predecessor, Scooba 300 Series. The new product
architecture included more intuitive tank interactions, improvements to the
cleaning head and UI, and completely new Industrial Design.
RP AVA - I was the lead Industrial Designer on this new medical application
for an iRobot mobility platform. The product was a joint program with
InTouch Health. iRobot was responsible for the mobility platform as well
as integrating InTouch Health's video conferencing technology to create a
cohesive Industrial Design.
Looj - My role on this project was to advise the China manufacturer on the
Industrial Design and architecture working closely with the Outdoor
Products Development team within iRobot.
Austin - Austin is a code name for a future program. I managed the
Industrial Design, User Experience and GUI development work. The foundation
of this work was to create US and Japanese Persona's based on in-home and
Skype interviews. These Personas were used to create a framework for the
GUI, make decisions on key product technologies and help to drive the
aesthetic of the robot.
Brookstone, Nashua, NH
07.02 - 05.05 Design Director
Brookstone Labs created truly unique product concepts to be sold in
Brookstone stores and through catalog partnerships. I was responsible for
the design of 20-30 products per year. The individual product
concepts were conceived by a team of Merchant Category Managers, Quality
Assurance Engineers, and an Industrial Designer. My role was to take the
product vision and create concepts that would give the idea
life, contribute value added features as seen fit for the expected gross
margin, and work with China partners to develop the product while keeping
the original product vision intact.
Eclipse Product Development, Nashua, NH
