Qualities and Accomplishments
Frequently tasked with helping a client to advance important initiatives that have become grounded.
Delivery and
Often wearing multiple hats, will use the most relevant techniques and empower the available assets
Execution (people and tools) to move forward on the key objectives and ultimately deliver.
One such example of focused delivery was the work done for a Canadian Insurance company during a large business transformation project. While
my primary responsibility was delivering a broker and policyholder web portal also played key roles in upgrading content management system;
data conversion and migration; work with the core insurance system vendor in implementing a SOA interface for their product; performance and
load testing and work on operations monitoring and infrastructure documentation and deployment. As a senior architect provided guidance to
multiple program workstreams and reported to 5 different project managers.
Mentoring & Leadership experience in multi-organization projects, dealing with multiple stakeholders or managing
the implementation activities associated with large projects.
Leadership
An example of this, is work at a major healthcare insurance provider. Led training for developers and BAs (over 2 dozen resources) on use case
documentation and RUP methodology. Curriculum and process represented a significant change from the organization's traditional waterfall
methodology. Work involved gaining the confidence and trust of the organization's senior resources on the team and helping them transition to a
newer ways of delivering technology solutions.
Qualities and Accomplishments
Clarity & Communicates technology decisions and impacts in concise understandable terms.
Communications
One example, is preparing a key technical document for an Insurance Broker Portal that required business stakeholder input and sign-off.
Conducted a number of sessions with VPs from Underwriting and Marketing to explain the concepts and the ultimate business impacts of
selecting or omitting a certain technology feature. Despite a set of lengthy and sometime frustrating dialogues was able to get Business
stakeholder ownership and sign-off on the document.
Continually seeks to make process improvements to deliver IT value more efficiently for the Business.
Process &
Extensive experience in development of frameworks or methodologies and business process modeling.
Governance
Examples include, the creation of a set of architecture documents produced for a major insurance system implementation. The documents
conformed to the architecture guiding principles and the IT governance framework (which was a combination of SAS 70, COBIT, ITIL and Microsoft
Operations Framework (MOF)) in place.
At Accenture, contributed to work within the Architecture practice to integrate Accenture's Business Integration Methodology (BIM) with the
Rational Unified Process (RUP) methodology. This variation on the standard Accenture methodology was a core Architecture Practice offering to
projects needing to use newer component technologies such as J2EE and .Net.
Qualities and Examples of Accomplishments
Technology & Experience leading project/development teams and technical specialists working on large and
Architecture complex systems.
As the prime eHealth architect on the provincial drug profile viewer (DPV) application. Work included the buildout of the first provincial Health
Information Access Layer (HIAL). Collaborating with a diverse group of product vendors, external health organization partners, and internal
domain experts in hosting, network, storage and security delivered a solution deployed to over 120 hospitals in the province. Solution was based
on a SOA design and leveraged foundational eHealth services such as identity and access management, secure audit and a HA BizTalk
configuration used for HL7 messaging.
Lead architect for the eHealth Agency's next generation Identity and Access Management (IAM) system. System was to provide the following
features: strong authentication (multi-factor); role based entitlements and access control; provisioning into a number of target systems (including
Active Directory, RSA, Entrust PKI, BEA ALUI portal, Cognos Reporting, MS Exchange, Remedy and a dozen or more custom applications); strong
audit and compliance functionality; and federated identity.
