Appendix B
Introductory Letter
To the Hiring Manager,
I am pleased to submit this application for Court Services Officer with the
Ministry of the Attorney General. I possess a Bachelor of Arts (2010 Honours)
Degree from Carleton University in Criminology with a Concentration in Law, in
combination with customer service experience in the event management
industry, acquired over 5 years of progressively more senior roles with the
Peterborough Musicfest. I have recently returned from a period of travelling and
working in New Zealand and the South Pacific and am now actively seeking
employment that will allow me to bring my skills and experience to a new career
in the Canadian legal system.
With the Peterborough Musicfest, I held the position of Business
Development Coordinator (2012-13) in which I managed over 100 business
sponsor accounts, generated new clients through the direct sale of sponsorship
packages, ensured all sponsors received the benefits outlined in their
sponsorship contracts and managed marketing campaigns across social media,
radio, television and newspaper outlets to promote the event and the
sponsorship program. I also drafted content for the event website, program
booklet, and media releases. Before each show I organized and conducted a
sponsor Meet & Greet with the artist and then presented onstage sponsor
recognition to the audience.
This role required excellent face to face communication skills to provide
superior client service while remaining diplomatic in a fast paced, demanding
work environment. It also required that I be comfortable working closely with
senior executives both internal (General Manager, Board of Directors) and
external (sponsorship clients, business owners, local politicians) and the general
public.
In 2011-12 I held the position of Manager of Volunteer Services where I
managed all aspects of the concert event’s volunteer program. This included
development and execution of marketing campaigns to promote the program,
candidate selection and interviews, and the scheduling, training, and on-site
management of volunteers at each of the twice weekly concerts, to ensure that
all volunteers delivered superb customer service to our guests.
As both Business Development Coordinator and Manager of Volunteer
Services I worked with members of the general public and VIPs face to face on a
daily basis. I utilized my strong communication and interpersonal skills to provide
4
excellent service to guests, sponsors and artists. I regularly worked in high-
pressure environments and remained calm and diplomatic while effectively
solving problems as they arose. In these positions I also sat on the
entertainment, volunteer advisory, and sponsorship committees, while
maintaining excellent relationships with volunteers, sponsors and local media. I
performed essential office administration tasks, such as correspondence via
email, telephone and social media with sponsors, artists and guests, minute
taking at meetings, and maintaining electronic and hard-copy filing systems for
important documents.
Through my post-secondary education in Criminology, with a
concentration in Law, I possess an understanding of legal procedures as they
relate to juries, and an understanding of court room proceedings and decorum. I
have over 20 hours of court room observation experience and know the layout of
the Ottawa Superior Court of Justice well.
I am bilingual in English and French and through my work experience and
education, have developed and utilized advanced knowledge of Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Wordpress, and outlook in both a Mac and PC environment. I am
meticulous in my communication, organization and attention to detail and enjoy
challenging and complex work environments. I am passionate about the
Canadian legal system and I am eager for the opportunity to bring the skills and
success I have earned in previous positions to the role of Court Services Officer.
I look forward to the opportunity to discuss my skills, experience and any
future positions further. Please do not hesitate to contact me at 613-***-**** or
