Projects

Deploy voice gateways (VG224s):

Summary: We needed to install VG224s across the network infrastructure to

connect legacy conference room telephones to the new VOIP infrastructure.

o Configure and install VG224s, and

o Secure them by configuring SSH and TACACS.

Replace Cisco faulty modules:

Summary: Cisco did audit last year on 6500 modules to find out if they have

bad memory chips installed on the board. Due to these bad memory chips, the

modules have a potential to fail at any time. We decided to swap them in

advance to avoid failures during normal business hours. My responsibilities

include:

o Open necessary tickets to inform affected teams and request

point person to perform final checkouts

o Arrange for replacement modules and make sure they are available

on site before the change

o Schedule the swap based on agreed time between teams and change

window availability

Freeing up unused network resources:

Summary: Currently we are in a process of migrating our services to our

datacenter in Aurora. As a result, we are only left with few connected

devices on our switches in other data centers. I have been tasked with

moving those devices to other more populated switches to free up these

chassis/modules to be used for new environment build outs.

o Coordinate migration of connected devices with respected teams

o Schedule power down, and extract the hardware

o Ship to desired data center for new environment build out

Rebuild lab with Cisco ToR (Top of Rack) solution:

Summary: We installed Top of Rack Solution in our lab to increase the port

capacity, availability, and speed. We have installed copper and fiber FEXs

in each rack which are connected back to the backbone. The backbone is

built by Cisco Nexus 5K. I was tasked with:

o Physically installing FEXs (Febric Extender) in each rack to

make connections easy

o Configured backbone Nexus 5Ks and connected FEXs

o Configured VPC (Virtual Port Channel) between Nexus 5K and

2232/2248 FEXs

Provide OOB (Out of Band) connectivity to networking devices:

Summary: We needed terminal server connectivity to our network devices for

troubleshooting purposes. Without OOB connectivity, we are solely depended

on uplinks which can become a problem if something goes wrong with uplinks.

The tasks include:

o Configure 2821 routers as terminal server, and upgrade IOS to

current version

o Ship them to the site and get them racked

o Bring them on the network and complete the installation
